Agriturismo Barbi
Monticchiello, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed at plenty of agriturismos in Tuscany, but Agriturismo Barbi actually gets it right. The moment you pull up that winding dirt road to Podere Montello 26 – and yeah, your GPS might get a bit confused once you’re off the main road through Monticchiello – you’ll see what I mean. The farmhouse sits on this gentle rise with vineyards rolling away in every direction, and honestly, it’s the kind of view that makes you understand why people move to Italy and never leave.
The family running this place has been working this land for generations, and you can tell. I mean, this isn’t some corporate operation trying to fake the rustic charm – the wine they serve at dinner? That’s literally from the vines you’re looking at from your window. The rooms have that perfect balance of old-world character (think exposed beams and terracotta floors) without making you feel like you’re roughing it. The beds are actually comfortable, which – let’s be honest – isn’t always a given at these historic properties. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night. You’re close enough to Monticchiello that you can walk into the village for an aperitivo (there’s this little bar in the main piazza that the locals love), but far enough out that the only sounds you’ll hear are maybe some night birds and the wind through the cypress trees.
Here’s what nobody tells you about this area – you’re perfectly positioned for day trips without dealing with tourist crowds. Pienza is maybe fifteen minutes away, and while everyone’s fighting for parking there, you can actually explore the cheese shops and that incredible view from the town walls without being elbow-to-elbow with tour groups. The breakfast situation deserves a mention too – they do this thing with fresh ricotta and honey that’s probably from bees somewhere on the property, plus the coffee is strong enough to fuel your morning hike through the Val d’Orcia. One small thing though: if you’re coming in summer, book dinner early because they only have a few tables and, well, word’s getting out about how good their pici pasta is. The whole experience just feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find – you know what I mean? It’s not trying to be anything other than what it is: a working farm that happens to let you stay and eat incredibly well while you’re there.

Guest Reviews
In the nearby village there were a great restaurant and you could also find a winery.
What could be improved: I thought I rented entire house, but we got a appartment. It was very tidy and got everything one could need, but it still surprised us.
i would give this property 11 star rating if i could

What could be improved: Loved everything about this property the host and the location
What could be improved: There’s absolutely nothing to complain about—our only regret is that we didn’t spend more time in Tuscany. When we return, we’ll definitely stay at this farmhouse again!
What could be improved: There are few supermarkets nearby, we organized ourselves and whenever necessary we brought our shopping from the supermarkets located in the cities we visited.
What could be improved: N/A
