Agriturismo Lunadoro
Pienza, ItalyYou know what really struck me about Agriturismo Lunadoro? It’s actually tucked away in this tiny hamlet that most people blow right past on their way to Pienza or Montepulciano. I mean, Monticchiello itself is basically a postcard – one of those hilltop villages that looks almost too perfect to be real – but Lunadoro sits just outside the main cluster, which honestly makes it even better. No crowds stumbling past your window at 8 AM, but you’re still close enough to walk into the village for dinner at Osteria La Porta (do that, by the way – their pici is incredible).
The place feels like staying at your Italian aunt’s country house, if your aunt happened to have impeccable taste and a serious green thumb. The rooms are in this beautifully restored farmhouse with thick stone walls that keep everything cool even in July, and the owner – I think his name was Marco – clearly put thought into every detail. We had a room facing the Val d’Orcia, and honestly, waking up to that view of rolling hills and cypress trees never got old. The breakfast setup is simple but spot-on: fresh pastries, local honey, really good coffee, and eggs from their own chickens wandering around the property. There’s this covered terrace where most people eat, and it’s got that perfect morning light that makes everything look golden.
What I loved most was how quiet it gets at night – like, properly quiet, not just “city person thinks it’s quiet” quiet. The only sounds are crickets and maybe the occasional car winding up the hill to Monticchiello. They’ve got a small pool area that’s nothing fancy but perfect for cooling off after hiking around the valley all day, and the grounds are dotted with olive trees and lavender that smells amazing in the evening. Parking is easy (always a relief in Tuscany), and Marco was super helpful with restaurant recommendations and directions to some of the smaller wineries in the area. The whole place just feels authentic in a way that a lot of agriturismos try for but don’t quite nail – it’s working farmland, not just a hotel dressed up to look rustic. If you’re planning to explore the Val d’Orcia properly and want somewhere that feels like the real Tuscany without sacrificing comfort, this is exactly what you’re looking for.

What could be improved: It’s necessary some improvements at the kitchen(appliances and linens) for exemple: dishcloths and placemats and coffee press or coffee machine.
We especially liked the pool and the surroundings, and that the pool was with salt water. The host was also very nice and the breakfast was amazing (especially given the price).

Our stay at Agriturismo Lunadoro was absolutely fantastic! From the very beginning, we felt right at home thanks to the warm hospitality of Veronica and her team. Veronica was especially helpful — she gave us excellent suggestions on what to see and do in the area, helping us create a memorable itinerary full of hidden gems.
The breakfast was rich and delicious, filled with local flavors, and the location of the agriturismo was perfect for exploring Tuscany. Everyone was kind, welcoming, and genuinely eager to help.
It was an experience we would love to repeat — we highly recommend it!

What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Shared apartment
Hosts are very welcome and caring: enviroment like a home.
What could be improved: It was a little complicated to be with a dog as area is not fenced and entrance was almost directly to the street, but it depends on the room.
Also there are not so many privacy and sound isolation, as our room window was to the street and washing room. Also room was small with shared kitchen/living room.
