Wine Resort Conti di San Bonifacio
Gavorrano, ItalyYou know what hits you first when you pull up to Wine Resort Conti di San Bonifacio? The silence. I mean, you’re way out in Località Casteani – honestly, I had to ask three locals in Montemassi proper before someone could point me toward this little hamlet. But that’s exactly the point. This place sits in the kind of Tuscan countryside that makes you understand why people write terrible poetry about rolling hills.
The resort itself is built into what used to be an actual wine estate, and they’ve kept all the good bones – thick stone walls, those heavy wooden beams that probably survived a few centuries of weather. The rooms smell faintly of lavender and something I couldn’t quite place (maybe old wood mixed with that particular scent of Tuscan earth after rain?). What really got me was the attention to small stuff – like, they actually have decent water pressure, which… well, anyone who’s stayed in converted historic buildings knows that’s not always a given. The beds are proper comfortable too, not those rock-hard mattresses some boutique places think are “authentic.”
Parking’s easy since you’re basically in the middle of nowhere, though fair warning – your GPS might have a small existential crisis getting here. The staff genuinely seems to know everyone within a twenty-kilometer radius, which comes in handy when you want restaurant recommendations that aren’t just the obvious tourist spots. They steered me toward this little osteria in Roccastrada that I never would’ve found otherwise. The pool area’s where you’ll probably spend most afternoons anyway – it’s got these views across the Maremma that make you forget you have emails to answer. I watched the sun set behind those distant hills every night, usually with a glass of their house wine (which, obviously, is actually good since they take the whole wine thing seriously).
Honestly, this isn’t the place if you want to be walking distance from museums or shopping – the nearest real town is Grosseto, maybe thirty minutes if you drive like an Italian. But if you’re looking for that thing where you can actually hear yourself think, where the loudest sound at night is maybe some cicadas having opinions about the weather, then yeah, this works. The 9.6 rating makes sense once you realize they’re not trying to be everything to everyone. They’re just really, really good at being a wine resort in the Tuscan hills where the Wi-Fi works, the food’s local, and you can walk through actual vineyards without feeling like you’re trespassing. Plus, and this matters – they don’t blast music around the pool or have that forced “activity coordinator” energy that makes you want to hide in your room.

Guest Reviews
The resort stands amongst the olive groves and vineyards on a hill so the views are amazing. Whilst we were there the weather was not so good and even then there was place to sit, enjoy a coffee and watch the weather pass by.
They are also pet friendly so we could take our pups with us.
We enjoyed a massage and a wine tasting...my wife said it was one of the best she has ever had and the wine tasting was very informative and Andrea, the sommelier, taught me things I never knew about wine. That was a first.
What could be improved: Our time was too short.
What could be improved: There was some transitional building work ongoing while we were there which wasn't a big issue.
View from terrace is astonishing, sunset unforgettable. Dinner at outside restaurant with delicious food fulfill with the view. This is the shortest description. You must come and see. I am coming back, for sure.
