Windows on Dome Luxury Rooftop
Florence, ItalyYou know what? I’ve stayed in a lot of Florence hotels, and Windows on Dome Luxury Rooftop is one of those places that actually lives up to its name – which honestly surprised me. The building sits right on Via dei Servi, which is this narrow street that locals use to cut between the Duomo and Piazza della Santissima Annunziata. Most tourists miss it completely, but it’s actually perfect because you’re literally a two-minute walk from the cathedral without dealing with the chaos of the main squares. The entrance is pretty understated (I mean, it’s just a door with a small sign), but once you take that elevator up to the fourth floor, everything changes.
The rooftop situation is genuinely spectacular – and I’m usually pretty cynical about these “luxury rooftop” claims. But from up there, you’re looking straight at Brunelleschi’s dome, close enough that you can see the individual tiles and the way the light hits differently throughout the day. I spent way too much time up there with my morning coffee, watching the city wake up while the dome cast shadows across the terracotta rooftops. The rooms themselves have this warm, lived-in elegance that feels more like staying in a sophisticated friend’s apartment than a hotel. The floors are original hardwood (they creak a bit, but in a charming way), and the windows – well, they really do frame the dome perfectly. Actually, the whole place has maybe eight rooms total, so it never feels crowded or impersonal like those big chain hotels near Santa Maria Novella.
What really got me was the attention to small details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The bathroom had this amazing rainfall shower with water pressure that didn’t quit, proper thick towels, and – this might sound weird – but the mirror lighting was perfect for getting ready. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out too. When I asked about dinner recommendations, they didn’t just rattle off the usual tourist spots but suggested this tiny osteria on Via Guelfa that I never would have found otherwise. The only minor thing is that the street can get a bit noisy during the day with delivery trucks and Vespas, but by evening it’s perfectly quiet. And honestly, the 9.7 rating makes complete sense – this is the kind of place where everything just works smoothly. You’re not paying for flashy amenities or a marble lobby; you’re paying for that unbeatable location, genuine comfort, and the luxury of waking up to one of the most beautiful views in Florence right outside your window.

What could be improved: As Americans, we don't always find the appliances to work intuitively (for us). We didn't figure out the oven!
The property itself is amazing. It’s clean, well-maintained, and features gorgeous high ceilings that give it a spacious feel.
What truly stood out was the host's exceptional service. Even during the holiday, he responded quickly to my inquiries and came over to show me something that made my stay even more comfortable. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable stay!
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: The stay was excellent with one minor inconvenience. We were given instructions to discard our trash the morning of checkout (instructions received after we already went to bed). There was no instruction guide in the apartment. The trash bin is about 1.5 blocks away as another reviewer stated. Of all our years of traveling globally this is the first time we were asked to do this and seems odd given they have cleaning service that would clean the unit.
What could be improved: All was absolutely wonderful.
