Ville Sull’Arno
Florence, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Ville Sull’Arno? It’s actually right there on the Lungarno – I mean, literally facing the Arno River – but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy at all. I’ve walked past this stretch of Lungarno Colombo dozens of times (it’s right near where the locals go for their evening passeggiata), and honestly, I always wondered what it was like inside this elegant building. Well, it’s pretty spectacular.
The thing about staying here is that you’re sort of in this perfect Florence bubble. You can walk to the Oltrarno in about three minutes – none of that crazy crowding around Ponte Vecchio because you’re downstream from all that chaos. The rooms facing the river, well, they’re worth the extra euros if you can swing it. I watched the light change on the water from golden hour straight through to when the street lamps started reflecting off the surface. There’s something about the way sound carries over water too – you get this gentle murmur of the city instead of the usual Florence street noise. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds basic but isn’t always the case with five-star places. They pointed me toward this little enoteca on Via dei Benci that I never would have found otherwise.
The interiors have that refined Florentine thing going on without being stuffy about it. I mean, you can tell someone put serious thought into every detail – the marble in the bathrooms feels substantial, not showy, and the beds are honestly some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in Italy (which is saying something because Italian hotel beds can be… an adventure). What really got me though was how they handle the morning routine. Breakfast isn’t just some buffet situation – they actually pay attention to what you order, remember if you want your coffee a certain way. It’s those small touches that make you feel like you’re staying somewhere that actually cares rather than just processing guests. The location means you can easily walk to Santo Spirito for dinner, or if you’re feeling ambitious, cross over to the centro storico without dealing with buses or taxis. Plus – and this matters if you’re traveling with luggage – they handle the whole arrival process smoothly, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Florence’s restricted traffic zones will appreciate.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Its a little far from the city center, but there are free shuttles to take you there!
Lovely pool and spa facilities, we have stayed here a couple of times now and hope to return.
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: There is currently a lot of civil construction projects occurring around the hotel, which of course is not the hotels fault but is certainly a current negative. Secondly, it is a good distance from most of the attractions in historic Florence so we had to use Taxi or UBER more than expected.
What could be improved: The noise outside as there were building works going on, however that couldn’t be helped.
What could be improved: Would be nice to have waitstaff checking on guests at the pool area to take orders for drinks and food. Instead you have to go to the restaurant to get their attention, and you’re not allowed to step beyond the pool area without a top, bottoms and shoes over your swimwear. They are very strict about this even in the outside restaurant area right next to the pool. This is a bit tedious to do every time you need a glass of water. Would also be nice if water bottles and glasses were allowed at the pool instead of only plastic cups and glasses.
What could be improved: Prices for food and drink in the hotel were very expensive. 7 euros for half a pint of beer and 16 euros for an aperol spritz to put it into perspective. The hotel was around a 50 minute walk into the centre and the free shuttle buses were great however were too infrequent.
