Hotel Description

You know what hits you first when you pull up to Villa Sabolini? The silence. I mean, you’re technically still in Colle Val D’Elsa, but this Mensanello area feels like you’ve driven into a completely different century. The villa sits on this hillside where you can actually hear the wind through the cypress trees – honestly, it’s almost unsettling how quiet it gets after sunset.

The place itself is one of those converted Tuscan estates that could’ve easily gone wrong (you know the type – all fake rustic charm and tourist traps), but they’ve actually kept the soul of it intact. The rooms still have those thick stone walls that keep everything wonderfully cool, even in August when the rest of Tuscany is basically an oven. I stayed in one of the suites facing the valley, and waking up to that view across the olive groves… well, it’s the kind of thing that makes you understand why people move to Italy and never leave. The furnishings hit that sweet spot between authentic and comfortable – antique pieces that don’t feel like museum displays, modern bathrooms that actually work properly.

What really sets this place apart though is how they’ve managed to stay connected to the local area without feeling isolated. The staff – and I mean this genuinely – knows everyone in the surrounding villages. They’ll tell you which nights the little osteria in Mensanello is actually open (it’s not consistent, trust me), or when the Saturday market in Colle Val D’Elsa is worth the fifteen-minute drive down the hill. Speaking of which, that drive is gorgeous but definitely not for nervous drivers – the road winds through vineyards and gets pretty narrow in spots. Parking at the villa is no problem though, which honestly can’t be said for most places in this region. The whole property has this lived-in feeling that’s hard to fake – like you’re staying at a well-to-do Italian friend’s family home rather than a hotel. The pool area overlooks the valley and catches the late afternoon sun perfectly, and there’s usually this gentle breeze that comes up from the valley floor around aperitivo time. That 9.1 rating makes total sense when you experience the whole package – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Tuscany, but it nails that authentic Italian hospitality thing that so many places struggle with.

A nice hotel in a good location. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant which was very good. The breakfast was also good. The room was quiet and comfortable with windows facing the hotel garden.
The staff is very nice and they also arranged for us an order of bikes for the next day.

Wow wow wow. What an exceptional villa. We weren’t sure what to expect. But everything was beyond amazing!!! The room, the location, the staff, the pool, the amount of chairs at the pool, the bar at the pool. The chef who would go to the markets each day and create a bespoke menu for the evening, the staff were gorgeous and the breakfast great.
