First Impressions

Walking up Via San Gallo, you’ll spot the Typical apartment in the historic centre tucked into one of those classic Florentine buildings that makes you feel like you’ve stepped back a few centuries. The entrance is understated — no flashy signage or marble lobby — which honestly makes it feel more authentic. I mean, this is exactly what you want when you’re staying in Florence’s historic center, right? The building itself has that weathered stone facade that tells stories, and you can practically feel the history seeping from the walls as you walk in.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s the thing about Via San Gallo — it’s one of those streets that locals actually use, not just a tourist thoroughfare. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Duomo, but the area doesn’t feel completely overrun with tour groups. There’s a little market around the corner where you can grab fresh produce, and I discovered this tiny osteria just down the street that serves the kind of ribollita that makes you understand why Tuscans are so proud of their soup. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about wandering these narrow streets in the evening when the day-trippers have headed back to their buses.

The Apartment Experience

What strikes you immediately about this four-star place is how it manages to feel like a real Florentine home rather than a sterile hotel room. The apartment has those high ceilings with exposed beams that you see in all the Instagram photos, except here you’re actually living underneath them. The kitchen is properly equipped — not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation — so you can actually cook with those San Lorenzo market finds if you want. The furnishings strike that perfect balance between period charm and modern comfort, though I’ll be honest, the bathroom could use a slight update (nothing major, just showing its age a bit).

Daily Life & Atmosphere

Mornings here are pretty special, actually. You wake up to the sound of the city coming alive — not traffic noise, but the gentle bustle of people heading to work, shop owners opening up, that sort of thing. The windows face the street, so you get a real slice of Florentine life playing out below. Evenings are even better when you can open a bottle of Chianti and just watch the neighborhood wind down. There’s no concierge service or daily housekeeping like you’d get at a traditional hotel, but that’s sort of the point — you’re living like a local, not being pampered like a tourist.

Why Guests Love It

The high rating makes perfect sense once you spend a night or two here. It’s that rare combination of authentic location, comfortable space, and reasonable price that’s getting harder to find in Florence these days. Couples especially seem drawn to the intimate atmosphere — there’s something undeniably romantic about having your own little corner of this ancient city. You’re not just visiting Florence from here; you’re temporarily becoming part of it, shopping at the same places as your neighbors and taking the same shortcuts through the medieval streets.

Exploring Tuscany layers sunflower valleys, Renaissance masterpieces, and midnight gelato strolls.

Fantastic- the hosts are wonderful and very helpful and allowed us to drop off our luggage early so we could visit the plaza bag free. Apartment has plenty of rooms and beds for the 5 of us to sleep comfortably - AC and Washer were a blessing since we have been traveling for several weeks. 2 blocks from Duomo and the best pizza and coffee shops on the block. Host even went out of their way to mail us a bracelet we forgot. We would definitely stay here again.
