Tivoli Palazzo Gaddi Firenze Hotel
Florence, ItalyYou know what hits you first about Tivoli Palazzo Gaddi? It’s this gorgeous 15th-century palazzo that somehow manages to feel both impossibly grand and surprisingly intimate. I mean, you walk through these massive wooden doors on Via del Giglio – which is basically a stone’s throw from Santa Maria Novella station, honestly perfect if you’re dragging luggage – and suddenly you’re in this courtyard that feels like stepping into a Medici family secret. The frescoed ceilings are absolutely stunning, but what really got me was how they’ve managed to blend all that Renaissance drama with genuinely comfortable modern touches. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, which is rare for a five-star place.
The location is honestly brilliant if you know Florence at all. You’re literally around the corner from Via de’ Tornabuoni (hello, serious shopping), but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos that hits the Duomo area. I loved that I could walk to basically everything – the Uffizi takes maybe fifteen minutes if you don’t get distracted by all the leather shops along the way. The rooms themselves are spacious by Florence standards, and I’m talking about a city where most hotels squeeze you into what feels like a Renaissance-era closet. The bathrooms are particularly nice – marble everywhere, but the kind that feels warm, not cold and sterile. One thing though: if you’re a super light sleeper, request a room facing the courtyard rather than the street. Via del Giglio isn’t exactly a highway, but there’s some early morning delivery noise.
What really sets this place apart is how it feels authentically Florentine without being stuffy about it. The concierge team actually knows their stuff – they pointed me toward this incredible little osteria on Via delle Belle Donne that I never would have found otherwise, and steered me away from the tourist traps near the Ponte Vecchio. The breakfast spread is solid (decent prosecco selection, which, let’s be honest, is important), and they serve it in this gorgeous room with original frescoes that make you feel like you’re dining in a private palazzo. Because, well, you sort of are. The whole experience just feels effortless in a way that only really well-run hotels manage – you know, where everything works perfectly but you’re never aware of all the machinery behind it. If you’re looking for something that captures Florence’s Renaissance magic without feeling like you’re sleeping in a museum, this is honestly your best bet.

What could be improved: Not able to stay more.
What could be improved: pillows were made of foam, and there was quite a lot of noise between the rooms, very thin walls
What could be improved: Next time will get a room with only one floor. I am 67 and scared to go downstairs in middle of night to go to restroom.
