Tenuta di Paganico – I Roggeti
Paganico, ItalyYou know what caught me off guard about Tenuta di Paganico? It’s actually right on Via della Stazione, which sounds like it’d be all train noise and chaos, but honestly – this place feels like it’s hidden in its own little world. The property sits in this gorgeous restored estate that I mean, you can tell has been around for ages, with those thick stone walls and that particular Tuscan warmth that newer places just can’t fake.
The I Roggeti section (that’s where you’ll likely stay) has this really authentic farmhouse vibe without being rustic to the point of inconvenience, if you know what I mean. The rooms have these beautiful exposed beams and terracotta floors that actually stay cool even in summer – which, trust me, matters more than you’d think when you’re exploring Maremma in July. What I loved is how they’ve kept the original architecture but added things like proper shower pressure and air conditioning that actually works. The grounds are honestly spectacular – there’s this sprawling garden area where you can hear absolutely nothing but crickets in the evening, and the pool area feels like something out of a magazine but in a lived-in way.
Paganico itself is one of those small Tuscan towns that most tourists blow right past on their way to more famous spots, but that’s actually part of its charm. You’re about twenty minutes from Grosseto if you need proper shopping or train connections, but close enough to some incredible lesser-known spots – the thermal baths at Petriolo are maybe fifteen minutes away and hardly anyone knows about them. The hotel staff seems to really get this area; they pointed me toward this little osteria in the old town walls that I never would have found otherwise. Parking is easy here (which, let’s be honest, is not something you can say about most Italian hotels), and the check-in was refreshingly straightforward – none of that overly formal stuff that makes you feel like you’re bothering someone. The breakfast spread leans heavily into local ingredients, and I’m talking about actual local stuff, not just generic Italian fare. That 8.4 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Tuscany, but it does what it does really well, and there’s something genuinely relaxing about staying somewhere that feels more like a well-run country retreat than a hotel trying too hard to impress.

Guest Reviews
-Big clean pool
-Cozy apartment with everything you need for cooking simple dishes
-Very tasty breakfast, little choice but fresh and local
What could be improved: -terribly weak wifi internet
-figuring out the checkin, laundry, payment and breakfast was a bit confusing, the central office is located elsehere and noone informed us about how things work there. There were other equally confused guests as well
What could be improved: The check in process was very unclear. No check in instructions were sent, so we went straight to the property. The reception is actually 1.5km away which we weren’t told about. This the same place you have breakfast as well.
- Peaceful environment
- Clean
What could be improved: - The reception is not the one indicated on google maps, or the street signs and a bit hard to identity. We first arrived at the accommodation and called the reception
- Breakfast was in a Bar (italian breakfast - coffee/tea and something sweet) on the other side of the reception. With small children, all this back and forth is a bit hard to handle
- A lot of Bugs that can get into the accommodation being so close to nature
- You can hear the people next door
- Getting to the accommodation you cross a small river
What could be improved: check in fuori dalla struttura
