Strozzi Palace Hotel
Florence, ItalyYou know what struck me first about the Strozzi Palace Hotel? Walking up Via de’ Vecchietti, you almost miss it – which is actually perfect because this little street feels like a secret passage between the chaos of Repubblica and the Duomo crowds. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from all the main action, but somehow you’ve landed in this quieter pocket where actual Florentines still duck into the corner tabacchi.
The building itself is one of those converted Renaissance palazzos that Florence does so well, though honestly, they’ve managed to keep the historic bones without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The lobby has this warm, lived-in elegance – think original frescoed ceilings but with modern lighting that actually works. When I checked in around 4 PM on a Tuesday, the staff switched effortlessly between Italian, English, and what sounded like perfect German with the couple ahead of me. No pretentious formality, just genuine helpfulness. The rooms vary quite a bit (this is a centuries-old building after all), but even the smaller ones have character – maybe exposed beams or a view into one of those hidden courtyards you never see from street level. The bathrooms are modern enough that you won’t be wrestling with ancient plumbing, which, let’s be honest, can be hit or miss in this part of Florence.
What really sold me on this place is how it sits in the neighborhood. Step out the front door and you’re on Via de’ Tornabuoni in thirty seconds – perfect for window shopping or grabbing an aperitivo at Procacci. But walk the other direction toward Santa Maria Novella and you’ll find that little hole-in-the-wall trattoria (Da Sergio) that tourists never seem to discover. The train station is close enough that you can actually walk with luggage without breaking a sweat, and parking – well, there’s a garage about a block away which is honestly the best you’ll do in centro storico. The 8.2 rating feels about right; it’s not going to blow your mind with amenities (the fitness center is pretty basic, and there’s no pool), but it nails what matters most: location, comfort, and that sense of staying somewhere that feels connected to the real Florence. I slept well despite being in the heart of everything, and breakfast on the rooftop terrace – with the Duomo peeking over the buildings – was the kind of moment that makes you want to extend your stay.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Tell people in advance that the parking is off site and expensive. Your site stipulated that you have parking I was not expecting a 40.00 +euro charge for parking.
What could be improved: Can’t find a fault other than lot of steps if you don’t want to wait for the only elevator.
What could be improved: The system to lock and open doors really would need to be modernized (we had difficulty to get in the hotel when we arrived because the personnel did not hear the doorbell, so we had to make a few calls and wait about 10 minutes on the street, and in the night we were locked out from our hotel room because on our floor there were two rooms and we before our door we had to cross an other door that was shared and the other guest closed it from inside, so again we had to make some calls in the night to get some help.) The rooftop terrace was not accessible because of reconstruction, we really regretted.
What could be improved: You need to walk from
The train station. The taxis are little bit expensive
