Starhotels Tuscany
You know what struck me first about Starhotels Tuscany? It’s actually got personality, which honestly surprised me for a business hotel stuck out in Novoli. I mean, let’s be real – Via di Novoli isn’t exactly the cobblestone fantasy most people picture when they think Florence. This is the newer part of town, where the tram lines run and locals actually live and work, not just the tourist bubble around the Duomo.
But here’s the thing – staying here was kind of brilliant. The hotel itself feels properly Italian in that understated way, not trying too hard with fake rustic beams or whatever. The lobby’s got this warm, contemporary vibe with marble that doesn’t feel cold, and the staff… well, they actually seem to know the neighborhood. When I asked about dinner spots, the guy at reception didn’t just rattle off the usual suspects but told me about this little trattoria three blocks down that locals hit up after work. The rooms are solid – I had one of the standard doubles and it was bigger than I expected, with a decent bathroom and none of that cramped European hotel nonsense. The bed was properly comfortable too, which matters when you’ve been walking around Florence all day.
What really sold me on this place was how it connects to the rest of the city. The Novoli-San Donato area might not sound glamorous, but you’re literally a 15-minute tram ride from Santa Maria Novella station, and the T1 line stops right there – I could get to the historic center in about 20 minutes without dealing with Florence’s impossible parking situation. Actually, speaking of parking, they’ve got their own garage, which is worth its weight in gold if you’re driving in Tuscany. The neighborhood itself has this authentic feel – there’s a morning market nearby, proper cafés where you can get a real Italian breakfast for three euros, and it’s quiet at night (no drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM).
I stayed here in September, which is still pretty busy season, but the hotel never felt overrun. The service was efficient without being stuffy – check-in was quick, housekeeping was thorough, and when I needed restaurant recommendations beyond the obvious tourist traps, they came through. The breakfast spread was better than expected too, with actual good coffee and local pastries alongside the usual international stuff. Look, it’s not going to give you Instagram-worthy views of the Arno, but if you want a comfortable base that feels connected to real Florence rather than theme-park Florence, this place delivers. Plus, at an 8.5 rating, it’s clearly doing something right – and honestly, after staying in overpriced boutique hotels in the center that were half the size and twice the noise, I’d definitely book here again.
