San Lorenzo market is literally around the corner – and I mean the real market where locals shop, not just the tourist leather stalls outside. There’s this tiny osteria called Il Gatto e la Volpe about two blocks away that serves the best ribollita I had during my entire stay, and the woman who runs Soggiorno Pezzati was the one who told me about it. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you get when you stay somewhere that’s been family-run for years. The neighborhood comes alive in the evenings when the university students and young professionals who actually live here are heading home, giving you this authentic slice of daily Florentine life that’s pretty magical. Sure, you’ll still encounter tourist groups heading to and from the main sites, but honestly, that’s unavoidable anywhere in central Florence. The difference is that here, you get to retreat to this calm, well-run place where the Wi-Fi actually works and someone’s genuinely happy to help you figure out which bus to take to Fiesole.
