Silver Novella Luxury Apartment – Centro Storico
You know what really struck me about Silver Novella when I first walked up to Via dei Fossi 11? The street itself – it’s one of those narrow Florence lanes that feels completely untouched by the tourist chaos, even though you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Duomo madness. I mean, you step out the door and there’s this lovely residential vibe with actual Florentines going about their day, not just selfie sticks and tour groups.
The apartment itself is honestly more spacious than I expected (and I’ve stayed in a lot of Florence places where you can barely swing a cat). The ceilings have that classic height you get in these old palazzos, and the windows – well, they actually open properly, which sounds obvious but you’d be surprised how many places cheap out on the window hardware. The kitchen is fully kitted out, which was perfect because I grabbed some incredible produce from Sant’Ambrogio market (about a 15-minute walk east, totally worth it for the morning buzz). Fair warning though – like most historic buildings here, the walls are thick stone so WiFi can be a bit patchy in the bedroom, but honestly, that might be a blessing depending on your travel style.
What really sets this place apart is the location specifics that most people don’t mention. You’re on the Santa Maria Novella side of the river, which means you avoid the Oltrarno evening crowds but you’re close enough to pop over for dinner – the Ponte alla Carraia is right there. Plus, you’ve got the main train station about eight minutes away on foot, so no taxi drama with luggage. The street gets some morning delivery truck noise (typical Florence), but it dies down after 9 AM and honestly, the double-paned windows do a decent job. I loved that there’s a proper alimentari just around the corner on Via della Spada where the owner, this older gentleman, actually remembers your face after day two and starts recommending local wines. The whole Santa Maria Novella neighborhood has this perfect balance – close enough to everything important but far enough from Via del Corso that you can actually hear yourself think. At 8.9 rating, it’s hitting that sweet spot where you’re getting genuine local character without sacrificing the amenities that make a stay comfortable.
