Santa Croce 14 B&B
First Impressions
Walking into Santa Croce 14 B&B feels like discovering a secret that locals have been keeping to themselves. This four-star gem sits right on Piazza di Santa Croce — and I mean right on it, not tucked away on some side street like so many places claim. You’re literally steps from the Basilica of Santa Croce, which honestly makes morning coffee feel pretty spectacular when you’re looking out at one of Florence‘s most beautiful squares.
Location & Neighborhood
The Santa Croce area is where Florence gets real — it’s touristy enough that you won’t feel isolated, but local enough that you’ll stumble into neighborhood trattorias and artisan workshops. What I love about staying here is that you can walk to the Duomo in about ten minutes, hit the Uffizi in fifteen, but when you come back in the evening, you’re not fighting crowds of day-trippers. The piazza actually comes alive at night with locals meeting for aperitivo, and there’s this energy that feels authentically Florentine.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had this perfect balance — historic charm without feeling like a museum piece. You know what impressed me most? The attention to comfort alongside the character. The beds are genuinely good (not always a given in historic buildings), and the bathrooms are modern enough that you won’t be wrestling with ancient plumbing. The windows open right onto the piazza, which means some street noise, but honestly, waking up to the sounds of Florence starting its day felt like part of the experience.
Breakfast & Daily Rhythms
Breakfast here surprised me — they do both traditional Italian options and vegan choices, which isn’t something you see everywhere in Florence. I mean, most B&Bs give you a cornetto and call it a day, but there’s actually variety here. The timing works well too; you can fuel up and be out exploring before the tour groups descend on the major sites. Coming back in the afternoon, the piazza is perfect for people-watching with a gelato from one of the nearby spots.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.8 rating isn’t just numbers — couples especially seem to get what makes this place special, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about being right in the heart of things but still having a peaceful retreat to return to. The staff clearly knows Florence well and can point you toward experiences beyond the obvious tourist trail. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Florence rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense. When you’re paying for location in a city like this, you want it to actually matter — and here, it absolutely does.
