First Impressions

Walking up to San Pier Novello in Oltrarno on Via Romana, you immediately sense you’re somewhere special. This four-star boutique property sits right in the Santo Spirito neighborhood — honestly, it’s one of those spots that feels authentically Florentine rather than touristy. The entrance is on the first floor of a beautiful historic building, and there’s something intimate about climbing those stairs that makes the whole experience feel more personal than your typical hotel stay.

The Oltrarno Advantage

You know what I love about this location? You’re literally in the heart of Florence but on the “other side” — the Oltrarno district where locals actually live and work. Santo Spirito square is just steps away, and that’s where you’ll find the real Florence happening. Morning markets, neighborhood cafés where they know your order by day three, artisan workshops tucked into medieval streets. The Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens are practically next door, but more importantly, you can walk to the Ponte Vecchio in about five minutes without fighting through the main tourist crowds.

The Room Experience

The rooms here strike that perfect balance between historic charm and modern comfort. I mean, you’re staying in a centuries-old Florentine palazzo, so expect original architectural details — but they’ve thoughtfully updated everything that actually matters for a good night’s sleep. The room I stayed in had these gorgeous high ceilings and period touches, yet the bathroom was completely contemporary and the air conditioning actually worked (trust me, that matters in Florence summers). The windows open onto Via Romana, and there’s something magical about the morning light filtering through those old shutters.

Morning Rituals

Breakfast here is actually impressive for a boutique property this size. They’ve got the full Italian spread — proper cappuccino, fresh cornetti, local cheeses and cured meats — but they also cater to different dietary needs with vegetarian and gluten-free options. The continental buffet setup means you can linger over your coffee without feeling rushed, which I appreciated. What really won me over was how they source ingredients locally; you can taste the difference in everything from the honey to the fresh fruit.

Why Guests Love It

The location score of 9.6 tells the whole story, really. Couples especially seem to get it — there’s something romantic about staying in this neighborhood where you can wander cobblestone streets in the evening and stumble upon hidden wine bars and family-run trattorias. The staff genuinely knows the area and will point you toward places you’d never find on your own. Plus, with a 9.6 overall rating, you’re looking at consistently excellent service without the stuffiness of larger hotels. It’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re experiencing Florence as it’s meant to be experienced — authentically, intimately, and with just enough comfort to make every moment enjoyable.

Hotels in Tuscany crown hilltowns, olive groves, and Renaissance palazzi perfumed with rosemary.

The breakfast was delicious, the B&B was beautiful and Martina and her family were so welcoming and helpful. This is a wonderful place for anyone who wants to get away from the busy centre of Florence, but still be only 10 mins walk away in a quieter, less Touristy part of town.
