Borgo Guelfo I
First Impressions
Walking up to Borgo Guelfo I on Via Faenza, you’d honestly think you’re approaching someone’s elegant Florentine townhouse rather than a hotel. This four-star property sits in one of those perfectly preserved Renaissance buildings that makes Florence so magical — you know, the kind with those heavy wooden doors and stone facades that have been watching over the city for centuries. The entrance is understated in that effortlessly Italian way, but once you step inside, you realize you’ve found something special.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally in the heart of everything, but Via Faenza isn’t one of those tourist-clogged streets where you can barely walk. It’s about a three-minute stroll to the Duomo (I timed it), and you can reach the Uffizi in maybe eight minutes if you walk at a normal pace. The San Lorenzo Market is practically around the corner, which means you’ll stumble upon the best leather goods and local food without even trying. What really surprised me is how quiet it gets at night, despite being so central — couples especially seem to appreciate this balance, and honestly, I can see why.
The Room Experience
My room had this wonderful mix of historical character and modern comfort that you don’t always find in Florence hotels. The ceilings were high with original wooden beams, and the windows — well, they actually opened properly, which is more of a practical advantage than you’d think in these old buildings. The bathroom was completely updated (thank goodness), with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. I mean, after a day of walking on cobblestones, a proper shower is basically essential. The air conditioning worked well too, which during Florence summers is absolutely crucial.
Practical Perks
One thing that sets Borgo Guelfo I apart is the private parking available on-site — and if you’ve ever tried to navigate Florence by car, you’ll understand why this is huge. Most hotels in the historic center either don’t offer parking at all or charge astronomical fees for spots blocks away. The staff actually knows the city really well too, not just the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this little restaurant tucked away near Santo Spirito that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my best meals in the city.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something about staying here that makes you feel like you’re living in Florence rather than just visiting it. Maybe it’s because you can walk to the morning market for fresh fruit, grab an espresso at the corner bar where locals actually go, and still be at the Ponte Vecchio in ten minutes. The building itself has this authentic Florentine character — thick walls, cool stone floors, and that particular quality of light that filters through old glass windows. It’s not trying to be flashy or impress you with unnecessary amenities. Instead, it just does the important things really well, which honestly is exactly what you want when you’re exploring a city like Florence.
Hotels near me in Tuscany deliver quick drives to Val d’Orcia lookouts, artisan workshops, and cypress-lined cycling routes.
