Residenza Giotto
First Impressions
Walking up to Residenza Giotto on Via Roma, you’ll notice it doesn’t scream “hotel” from the outside — and that’s actually part of its charm. This four-star boutique property feels more like stepping into an elegant Florentine residence, which honestly makes sense given the name. The entrance is understated but polished, and you immediately get the sense that you’re staying somewhere that locals would approve of rather than just another tourist trap.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally in the Duomo district, which means you can stumble out of bed and be at Brunelleschi’s dome in about three minutes. I mean, couples rate the location 9.8 out of 10, and after staying here, I totally get why. You’re close enough to all the major sights that you don’t need to plan your day around transportation, but you’re on a quieter street so you’re not dealing with the constant buzz of tour groups right outside your window. The Uffizi is a pleasant five-minute walk, and there’s this little local restaurant around the corner that serves incredible ribollita — the kind of place you’d never find if you were staying out in the suburbs.
The Rooms
The accommodations here strike that perfect balance between historic character and modern comfort. My room had these gorgeous high ceilings with original architectural details, but the bathroom was completely updated with excellent water pressure — you know how hit-or-miss that can be in Florence. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in boutique properties), and there’s decent storage space, which matters when you’re living out of a suitcase. The windows open onto the street, and while it’s not completely silent, it’s much quieter than you’d expect for such a central location.
Daily Rhythms
Mornings here feel particularly special because you can grab coffee from the little bar downstairs and then wander over to watch the sunrise hit the cathedral before the crowds arrive. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood — they pointed me toward this tiny gelateria that I never would have discovered otherwise, and they were spot-on about which times to visit the major museums to avoid the worst lines. There’s no on-site spa or fancy amenities, but honestly, when you’re this close to everything Florence has to offer, you don’t really need them.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Residenza Giotto work is that it gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not. You’re paying for location and comfort, not flashy extras, and that trade-off makes perfect sense. The 8.8 rating reflects exactly what you get — solid accommodations in an unbeatable spot with staff who actually care about your experience. If you want to feel like you’re staying in Florence rather than just visiting it, this place delivers on that promise without the premium price tag of the big-name hotels.
