It’s tucked away in the Tuscan countryside about a 10-minute drive from Cortona’s historic center, which means you get those postcard views without the tourist crowds stumbling past your window at 7 AM.
The property itself feels like someone’s family converted their actual farmhouse into a hotel – and honestly, that’s probably exactly what happened. The rooms have this authentic lived-in quality that most places try to fake with distressed furniture from catalogs. I mean, the stone walls are genuinely old, and there’s something about the way the light hits those terracotta floors in the afternoon that makes you want to pour a glass of wine and just sit there. The 4-star rating is spot-on – it’s not trying to be some fancy resort, but everything works well and the beds are actually comfortable (which, if you’ve stayed in enough “authentic” Italian places, you know isn’t always a given).
What really sold me on this place was how the staff seemed to actually know the area. When I asked about hiking trails, the guy at the desk didn’t just hand me a generic brochure – he drew a little map showing me where to park near the Etruscan walls and mentioned that the path gets muddy after rain. That kind of local knowledge is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to make the most of a few days in Cortona.
