Residenza dei Pucci
Florence, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Residenza dei Pucci? The fact that you’re literally staying in a Renaissance palazzo on one of Florence’s most storied streets. I mean, Via dei Pucci isn’t just some random address – this is where the actual Pucci family (yes, those Puccis) had their residence. Walking out the front door, you’re maybe 200 meters from the Duomo, but somehow you’ve landed in this quieter pocket where locals still do their morning shopping and you can actually hear your own footsteps on the cobblestones.
The building itself feels authentically Florentine without being stuffy about it. The rooms have these gorgeous frescoed ceilings – not reproductions, the real deal – but they’ve managed to fit in modern bathrooms and decent air conditioning without ruining the vibe. Honestly, the AC was a lifesaver when I stayed there in July, because let’s be real, those thick stone walls keep things cool but not *that* cool. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, too, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many hotel workers in tourist areas are just as lost as you are. They pointed me toward this little enoteca on Via dell’Oriuolo that I never would’ve found otherwise.
What really won me over was the morning routine there. Instead of some generic breakfast buffet, they serve everything in this intimate room that feels like you’re eating in someone’s actual home – well, because you sort of are. The coffee is proper Italian coffee, not the watered-down stuff you get at big chain hotels, and they source their pastries from a bakery that’s been around since the 1800s. You can sit there planning your day while listening to the city wake up outside, which in Florence means church bells, delivery trucks on the narrow streets, and the occasional passionate conversation echoing off the buildings.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Florence rather than just visiting. Sure, you’re close enough to hit all the major sites (the Accademia is like a five-minute walk), but you’re also positioned to stumble onto real neighborhood life. There’s this morning market on Via Sant’Antonino where locals do their shopping – it’s maybe a three-minute walk and gives you a completely different perspective on the city. The only minor thing is that parking can be tricky, but honestly, that’s Florence for you. They’ll help you figure out the nearest garage, and once you’re settled, you won’t need a car anyway.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: I couldn’t leave shutters open as the room was facing several windows in the building next door, but not surprising in an ancient building.
What could be improved: I like everything about this place!
What could be improved: N/A
What could be improved: City tax to be.left in room. Forgot to leave key. Had to mail it. Nobody except cleaning lady.
What could be improved: There are no lift - could be an issue with heavy luggage... however, we were very lucky that the host himself was there when we arrived and did all the heavy lifting for us!
What could be improved: The bed wasn’t the most comfortable.
