Residence Talamone Il Poderino
Orbetello, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Residence Talamone Il Poderino? The quiet. I mean, you’re literally on Strada Provinciale Talamone Ovest, which sounds like it should be busy, but honestly it’s this peaceful stretch where the main sound is cicadas and the occasional car heading toward the coast. The property sits back from the road enough that you forget about traffic pretty quickly.
The whole setup is actually quite clever – it’s designed like a proper residence complex rather than your typical hotel box, which makes sense given the name. The apartments (because that’s really what they are) have this lived-in feel that I really appreciated. Full kitchens, proper living areas, the kind of space where you can actually spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. The furnishings are that comfortable Italian style – not trying too hard to be fancy, just well-made and pleasant to live with for a few days. I stayed in one of the ground floor units and the terrace was honestly bigger than my apartment back home.
What makes this place special, though, is how it sits in relation to everything else. Talamone itself is maybe a five-minute drive down the hill – and what a drive, because you’re winding down through olive groves with glimpses of the Tyrrhenian Sea that’ll make you pull over for photos. The town is one of those perfect Tuscan coastal spots that hasn’t been completely overrun yet, with a proper fishing harbor and restaurants where locals actually eat. The fortress up on the rocks is worth the climb, especially at sunset when the light hits the water just right. But here’s the thing – staying up at Il Poderino means you get the best of both worlds. Close enough to walk into town if you’re feeling energetic, far enough away that you’re not dealing with the summer crowds or restaurant noise late at night.
The management clearly knows what they’re doing too. Check-in was smooth, they had good recommendations for everything from grocery shopping to which beaches are worth the drive, and when I had a minor issue with the air conditioning they sorted it out the same day. The pool area is where you’ll probably spend your mornings – it’s got that perfect Mediterranean setup with loungers positioned to catch the morning sun and views over the countryside. By afternoon it can get pretty warm (this is Maremma in summer, after all), but the apartments stay surprisingly cool.
I’ll be honest, this isn’t the kind of place for a quick overnight stop – it’s designed for people who want to settle in for a few days and actually experience this part of Tuscany. The 8.6 rating makes sense when you consider what you’re getting: space, comfort, location, and that elusive quality of feeling like you’re living somewhere rather than just passing through. If you’re planning to explore the Monte Argentario peninsula or use this as a base for day trips to places like Pitigliano or Orbetello, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better setup.
