I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Residence Hilda on Via dei Servi – the street’s pretty narrow and honestly, you might walk right past it if you’re not paying attention. But once you’re inside, it’s like stepping into this perfectly curated Florentine apartment that somehow manages to feel both elegant and lived-in at the same time. The kind of place where you actually want to hang out in your room instead of just crashing there after a long day of museum hopping.

The location is honestly incredible, and I mean that in the most practical way possible. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the Duomo – I timed it because I’m nerdy like that – but here’s the thing everyone misses: you’re positioned perfectly to avoid the absolute chaos of the main tourist drags. Via dei Servi has this lovely morning rhythm where locals are grabbing their coffee and heading to work, but by evening it’s quiet enough that you can actually sleep with the windows open (which you’ll want to do because the rooms get that beautiful cross-breeze). The Accademia is right around the corner too, so if you’re planning to see Michelangelo’s David, you can literally roll out of bed and be there when it opens – trust me, go early.

What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail that you only notice after you’ve stayed in a dozen mediocre hotels. The beds are actually comfortable (not just “hotel comfortable”), the shower pressure is fantastic – apparently a rarity in historic Florence buildings – and they’ve somehow managed to soundproof the rooms really well. I slept like a baby even during the busy summer season when the streets can get pretty lively. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood too, not just the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this tiny family-run trattoria on Via Guelfa that I never would have found otherwise, and honestly, it was better than half the places with Michelin mentions. The breakfast situation is solid – nothing fancy, but good coffee and fresh pastries, plus they’re flexible about timing if you’re one of those people who can’t function before 9 AM. Only minor gripe? The elevator is one of those charming old European ones that fits maybe two people and a small suitcase, but honestly, it adds to the character. With a 9.4 rating, this place has figured out how to be authentically Florentine without sacrificing the practical stuff that actually matters when you’re traveling.

  ****** 6 stars! Super clean and comfortable apartment with air-conditioning and all the amenities you can imagine. It's located a couple of minutes from the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, but away from the tourists' hustle and bustle. The host surprised my wife with a delicious local delight for her birthday. Staying at Residence Hilda was an unforgettable experience, real hospitality. Thank you for everything!
