Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Relais La Corte di Cloris? The name sounds way fancier than what you’ll actually find – and I mean that in the best possible way. This isn’t some stuffy, intimidating place where you’re afraid to touch anything. It’s got this warm, lived-in elegance that makes you feel like you’re staying at a well-to-do Italian friend’s place rather than a standard hotel.

The location on Via Masaccio is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Florence rather than just visiting it. Campo Di Marte isn’t where all the tourists end up (they’re all crammed around the Duomo), but it’s got this authentic neighborhood vibe with actual Florentines going about their daily lives. There’s a great little market just a few streets over where locals do their shopping, and the walk into the historic center takes maybe 20 minutes if you’re not in a hurry – which, let’s be honest, you shouldn’t be in Florence anyway. The area gets quiet at night, which is a blessing after you’ve spent the day navigating crowds at the Uffizi.

What really won me over was the attention to details that actually matter. The rooms have proper reading lights (you’d be surprised how many hotels mess this up), and the beds are firm without being rock-hard. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work – they’ll help you figure out which restaurants are worth your time versus the tourist traps, and they know the bus schedules better than the actual bus drivers do. Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of Florence, but they’ve got arrangements that make it less of a headache than it could be. The breakfast spread is what you’d hope for in Italy – proper coffee, fresh pastries, and none of that sad continental buffet nonsense.

I’ll be honest, it’s not the newest place you’ll find, and some of the rooms show their age a bit, but there’s something charming about the slightly worn marble floors and the way the morning light hits the courtyard. The 8.7 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it does what it does really well. If you’re the type who needs a pool and a spa, look elsewhere. But if you want to wake up in a real Florentine neighborhood, have a proper espresso, and walk to world-class art museums without feeling like you’re staying in a tourist bubble, this place gets it right.

A beautifully appointed room. Such a sense of past time elegance. Pleasant gardens to the rear of the property. Quirkily detached but the IT access works fine and the honesty service at reception delivered an excellent bottle of Chianti at a very reasonable price.
