Relais Condotta
Florence, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Relais Condotta? The fact that you’re literally walking the same cobblestones Michelangelo probably did to get to his studio. I mean, Via della Condotta sits right in that sweet spot where tourists haven’t quite figured out they should be wandering yet, but you’re still a two-minute walk from the Uffizi. When I say two minutes, I actually timed it – because honestly, I couldn’t believe how close it was until I walked it myself.
The building itself has that worn Florentine elegance that you can’t fake – thick stone walls that keep things blissfully cool even in August, and these gorgeous arched windows that frame the narrow medieval street below. What I loved (and didn’t expect) was how quiet it stays at night. You’d think being so central would mean constant noise, but something about the way these old streets are laid out just swallows sound. The rooms have this understated luxury thing going on – not flashy, but everything feels solid and well-thought-out. The beds are actually comfortable, which… well, anyone who’s stayed in historic European hotels knows that’s not always a given. And the bathrooms are modern without trying too hard to be trendy, if that makes sense.
But here’s the thing that really won me over: the staff genuinely knows Florence. Not just the obvious stuff, but they’ll tell you which osteria on Via dei Neri has the best ribollita (it’s the one with no sign, naturally), or that if you want to see the Duomo without fighting crowds, go at 7:30 AM when the light is incredible anyway. They steered me away from the touristy leather markets and toward this tiny workshop near Santo Spirito where the guy still hand-stitches everything. The concierge actually drew me a little map showing how to cut through the back streets to avoid the Ponte Vecchio chaos – saved me probably hours over a long weekend. This is the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying with knowledgeable locals rather than just… hotel staff, you know? The 9.2 rating makes total sense when you experience that level of genuine helpfulness. Sure, it’s not the cheapest option in Florence, but when you’re spending your days wandering between the Bargello and Palazzo Pitti, then coming back to a place that feels like a sophisticated home base rather than just another hotel room – it’s worth it.

What could be improved: No parking but that is everywhere in Florence Center
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Nothing, everything was great!
What could be improved: Staff doesn't help with the luggage, whether while checking in or checking out. We had many bags and it requires multiple trips to take the bags to the hotel using the small lift.
What could be improved: There was some noise from the street - just people talking whilst they were walking. We always sleep with a white noise app so it didn't bother us but I did notice there were ear plugs in the bathroom so I assume it must be an issue for some people.
What could be improved: The noise! Not the fault of the property, but still worth mentioning so others are aware. It's the one thing that would potentially stop me from returning. They do provide ear plugs, but I can't sleep with them. The noise was beyond what I expected, and went literally all throughout the night and into the morning. The street noise amplifies right up the building, and was really extreme. People screaming, yelling, partying, street cleaning trucks etc.
