La Casa Del Garbo – Luxury Rooms & Suite
So I stumbled upon La Casa Del Garbo during one of those lucky booking moments where everything just clicks, and honestly? I’m still kind of amazed this place exists right on Piazza della Signoria. I mean, you’re literally looking out at the same square where they burned Savonarola – though thankfully the view now is mostly tourists taking selfies with the Neptune fountain instead of public executions.
The thing about staying right in the Uffizi area is that most hotels either cost a fortune or feel like they haven’t been updated since the Renaissance (and not in a charming way). But La Casa Del Garbo actually gets the balance right. The rooms have this sort of elegant restraint – you know what I mean? Like someone with actual taste designed them instead of just throwing around words like “luxury” and hoping for the best. The suites are particularly nice if you can swing it, with these tall ceilings that make you feel properly Italian, plus enough space to actually unpack your suitcase instead of living out of it for a week.
What really surprised me was how quiet it stays at night, considering you’re basically in the middle of everything. The square can get pretty rowdy during the day – street performers, tour groups, the usual chaos – but once evening hits and the day-trippers head back to their buses, it settles into this almost magical calm. You can actually hear the fountain from some of the rooms, which sounds cheesy but is oddly soothing after a long day of dodging selfie sticks at the Uffizi (which, by the way, is literally a three-minute walk – no exaggeration).
The staff clearly knows their stuff about Florence, not just the obvious tourist spots but the kind of details that matter. They steered me toward this tiny osteria on Via dei Leoni that I never would have found otherwise, and warned me about the crowds at Ponte Vecchio around 4 PM (solid advice). Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that awkward hovering while they “prepare your room” for an hour.
I’ll be real with you – parking is basically nonexistent unless you want to pay through the nose, but honestly, you don’t need a car here anyway. The whole historic center is walkable, and if you’re staying right on the main square, you’re already where everyone else is trying to get to. The location means you can duck back to your room between museums instead of trudging around all day with a backpack full of water bottles and guidebooks.
The 9-star rating makes sense once you’re there. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Florence – it’s just really, really good at what it does. Clean, comfortable, perfectly located, with staff who actually seem to care about whether you have a decent stay. Sometimes that’s worth more than all the marble bathrooms and champagne service in the world.
