Podere Mezzastrada Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Podere Mezzastrada, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star property tucked away in the Tuscan countryside. The approach along Via Strada is pretty unassuming, but then you see this beautifully restored farmhouse emerging from the rolling hills around Fiano, and it just clicks — this is exactly what you picture when you think of authentic Tuscany. There’s something immediately calming about the place, maybe it’s the way the cypress trees frame the entrance, or how the stone walls seem to glow in that particular Italian light.
Location & Surroundings
You know what really struck me about this spot? It’s remote enough to feel like a proper escape, but you’re actually only about 20 minutes from Florence when traffic cooperates. The couples who stay here clearly get it — I mean, there’s a reason they rate the location so highly for romantic getaways. The property sits on this gentle hillside where you can see for miles across olive groves and vineyards, and honestly, the sunsets from here are something else. I spent way too much time just sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine, watching the light change across the valley.
The Accommodations
The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of rustic charm and modern comfort — exposed beams overhead, but thankfully excellent air conditioning and a bathroom that actually worked properly. And I have to say, they weren’t kidding about those beds being comfortable. I’m usually a pretty light sleeper, especially in new places, but I slept like a rock every single night. The furnishings feel authentically Tuscan without being over-the-top touristy, if you know what I mean — think weathered wood and local ceramics rather than fake antiques.
Practical Matters
One thing that really made a difference was the free parking right on site — you don’t realize how much of a relief that is until you’ve tried navigating some of these tiny Tuscan hill towns with a rental car. The staff here actually knows the area well and gave me some great tips about which local roads to take and which ones to avoid (apparently there’s a much prettier route to Greve in Chianti that most tourists miss). The restaurant on property serves dinner a few nights a week, and while it’s not fancy, the ingredients are clearly local and the pasta was honestly better than some places I’ve paid twice as much for in Florence.
Why Guests Love It
I think what makes this place work so well is that it delivers on that quintessential Tuscan experience without feeling manufactured or overly polished. You’re staying in a real farmhouse that’s been thoughtfully updated, surrounded by working vineyards and olive groves, but you still get reliable wifi and hot water. It’s the kind of place where you can spend the morning exploring medieval villages, come back for a nap in the afternoon heat, and then watch the stars come out over the valley — which, by the way, are incredible out here with so little light pollution.

Apartments are set in a beautiful complex surrounded by cypress trees and a beautiful quiet and peaceful natural setting. Swimming pool was clean and had a beautiful view of the Tuscan hills. Apartment was well equipped, it had everything you might need to cook and prepare meals. The staff were very accommodating and flexible, even allowing a slightly later checkout. Highly recommended.
