You know what? I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Tuscany, but Podere Mencoini just hits different. First off, forget everything you think you know about “villa rentals” – this isn’t some stuffy countryside mansion or a cramped agriturismo trying too hard. It’s actually this perfectly restored farmhouse tucked away in Scrofiano (yeah, I know, the name makes everyone giggle), and honestly, the location is genius. You’re about 20 minutes from Sinalunga if you need groceries or a proper dinner out, but far enough into the hills that you’ll hear nothing but cicadas and the occasional tractor rumbling past the olive groves.

The pool – and I mean this – is probably the best I’ve experienced in this price range. It’s not huge, but it’s perfectly positioned so you get morning sun and afternoon shade, plus the view stretches out over their olive trees toward the Val d’Orcia. The owner actually maintains the grove himself, and if you’re there during harvest season (late October, early November), you might catch him and his crew working the trees. There’s something really grounding about having breakfast on the terrace while watching that whole process unfold. The villa itself feels lived-in in the best way – thick stone walls that keep everything cool even in August, and they’ve got this knack for modern comfort without losing the authentic character. The kitchen is actually functional (not always a given in these places), and the bedrooms have proper blackout curtains, which sounds small but trust me, you’ll appreciate it when you want to sleep past sunrise.

What really sets this place apart though is the attention to detail that you only notice after you’ve been there a day or two. The water pressure is excellent, the WiFi actually works throughout the property, and there’s plenty of parking – which matters more than you’d think when you’re navigating those narrow country roads with a rental car. The whole property just feels… well, cared for. Like someone lives there and wants you to love it as much as they do. I mean, with a 9.9 rating, they’re clearly doing something right, but it’s not just about the amenities. It’s about how you feel when you’re sitting by that pool at sunset, glass of local wine in hand, watching the light change across the valley. That’s the kind of moment you came to Tuscany for, and honestly, Podere Mencoini delivers it without trying too hard.
