First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Pieve di Caminino Historic Farm, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a four-star property tucked away in the Tuscan countryside. The approach along SP 89 winds through rolling hills dotted with olive groves, and then suddenly — there it is. This isn’t your typical hotel; it’s a beautifully restored historic farm that feels like stepping into a different century, but with all the comforts you actually want in 2024.

The Setting

Located in Podere Caminino, about 30 minutes from the coast, this place sits in what I’d call the sweet spot of Tuscany — far enough from crowds to feel authentic, close enough to civilization that you’re not completely isolated. The property itself sprawls across working farmland, and you know what really struck me? The silence. I mean, real silence, broken only by the occasional sheep bell or tractor in the distance. Couples absolutely love it here (they’ve rated the location a perfect 10), and I can see why — there’s something deeply romantic about watching the sunset paint those hills golden while you’re sipping wine on the terrace.

Accommodations That Actually Work

My room was in the main farmhouse, with thick stone walls that kept things naturally cool even in July heat. The restoration work here is impressive — they’ve managed to preserve the historic character while adding modern touches that actually make sense. The bathroom was spacious, the bed genuinely comfortable, and the views… well, let’s just say I spent more time than usual just staring out the window. Each accommodation feels different too, since they’re working with the original farm buildings rather than cookie-cutter hotel rooms.

Practical Perks

Here’s something I really appreciated — free parking right on site, which might sound basic but trust me, it’s not always a given in rural Italy. The staff genuinely knows the area and can point you toward hidden gems that aren’t in any guidebook. They also serve breakfast using ingredients from their own farm and local producers, which sounds touristy but actually tastes incredible. The homemade jams alone are worth getting up early for.

Why Guests Love It

This place works because it doesn’t try too hard to be something it’s not. It’s a working farm that happens to welcome guests, not a theme park version of rural Italy. The 9.5 rating makes perfect sense when you experience the genuine hospitality and attention to detail. Whether you’re using it as a base for exploring the Maremma region or just want to disconnect for a few days, Pieve di Caminino delivers that authentic Tuscan experience without sacrificing comfort. Plus, the location really is exceptional — close enough to day-trip to hilltop towns or coastal areas, but remote enough that you’ll actually want to stick around and enjoy the property itself.

Apartments in Tuscany suit slow travelers with stone fireplaces, countryside terraces, and farmhouse kitchens.

The location is so dreamy with many hang-out spots throughout the property and a big pool. I enjoyed walks in the forest and olive trees adjacent to the property. The host was super kind and helpful, we were welcomed with a bottle of wine!

Place was very unique and the host Emy super welcoming and helpful. Emy’s ’livingroom’ is something we’ve never experienced. He offered us prosecco and tips were to go etc. Our apartment was very spacious, beds were super comfy and the view from the windows and the terazze were amazing. We visited many nice places quite near by and loved our stay at the farm.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Pieve di Caminino Historic Farm, which welcome dogs as warmly as their two-legged guests. Not only was everything exactly as described on Booking.com but the kind checkin by the owner, Emy, and his continuous availability for any questions were extraordinary. This location is perfect for finding the quiet on one site and having a multitude of attractions to explore within only a 30 to 60 minute drive, including the beach. The farm is a pure charme with the lobby being a true treasure of antiques telling stories of over 150 years. I can only most highly recommend this place and their owners.

Everything was perfect! From the moment we arrived we were expected with the fireplace on and music playing in our apartment which made us feel very welcomed. The whole farm is very authentic and well maintained and it gives you the real tuscan countryside experience. We enjoyed walking on the farm and discovering everything the property had to offer. The host was very friendly and responsive and he gave us plenty of helpful information and recommendations on what to visit during our stay. We hope we get the chance to come back here.
