Casa Dreosti
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked down Vicoli Boni – it’s this narrow little street that honestly looks like every other medieval lane in Cortona until you actually find Casa Dreosti tucked away at number 20. But then you step inside and it hits you immediately: someone here really gets what travelers actually want from a boutique hotel in Tuscany.
The thing about Cortona is that most places either try too hard to be rustic (think fake stone walls and plastic grapes) or they go completely sterile and modern. Casa Dreosti somehow finds this perfect middle ground where you’re staying in what feels like an elegant Italian home, but everything actually works. The wifi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, the shower has proper pressure, and – this might sound silly but it matters – the beds are the right height so you’re not doing some weird vault maneuver to get in. I mean, the building itself is definitely old (you can tell from the thick walls and the way sounds carry), but they’ve renovated it thoughtfully. The rooms have these beautiful high ceilings with exposed beams, and the bathrooms use local travertine that doesn’t look like it came from a catalog.
What really sold me on this place though was the staff’s approach to recommendations. Instead of handing you some generic tourist map, they’ll actually tell you things like “go to the morning market on Saturday but skip the touristy stalls near the entrance” or “if you want the best view of Val di Chiana, walk ten minutes past where all the tour groups stop.” The location is honestly perfect for this – you’re right in the historic center so you can walk to Piazza della Repubblica in maybe three minutes, but Vicoli Boni is quiet enough that you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling around at midnight. Parking can be a bit tricky (welcome to medieval Italian towns), but they’ll sort you out with a spot just outside the old walls, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need your car anyway. The whole town is basically walkable, and you’re close enough to places like Palazzo Casali and that amazing little enoteca on Via Nazionale that locals actually go to. I stayed here during shoulder season in October and the whole experience just felt… effortless, I guess? Like they’ve figured out how to give you that authentic Tuscan experience without any of the usual hassles that come with staying in a centuries-old building in a hilltop town.

Guest Reviews
The most generous and kind host.
The room was great -the whole place had a lovely energy.
Joroen's breakfast was a great start to a day of exploring beautiful Cortona.
A lovely accomodation to retire to after a dinner at one of Cortona's fabulous restaurants.
A large very comfortable and tasteful room that can be heated or cooled to a comfortable temperature to suit the season. Super good shower.
We also appreciated having access to a washing machine, and thanks to the washing line just outside the windows, our clothes dried within a couple of hours in the August heat.
The highlight of our stay was definitely the breakfast. Jeroen, a true foodie, bakes fresh croissants every morning and serves them with seasonal fresh fruit or a smoothie/juice, depending on what’s available that day. Each morning, we enjoyed sitting outside on the charming Cortona street, surrounded by plants and flowers in front of Casa Dreosti. It’s such a special memory for us, and we will definitely return when we visit Cortona again.
