Palazzo Lenzi
Siena, ItalyYou know, I’ve walked down Via Di Città probably a hundred times over the years, but I never really noticed Palazzo Lenzi until I actually stayed there last spring. It’s tucked right into the medieval streetscape in a way that feels completely natural – I mean, this building has been part of Siena’s fabric for centuries, so it should feel that way, right? The entrance is understated in that effortless Italian way, no flashy signs or tourist traps, just solid wooden doors that open into what honestly feels like stepping into someone’s elegant family home.
The thing about staying right on Via Di Città is that you’re literally in the heart of everything, but – and this surprised me – it’s not actually that noisy. Sure, you’ll hear people walking by during the day, maybe some animated Italian conversations drifting up from the street, but by evening it settles into this perfect Tuscan quiet. I had a room facing the internal courtyard anyway, which was smart planning on their part. The rooms themselves have that authentic Tuscan feel without being too museum-like, you know? Original stone walls, but with modern bathrooms that actually work properly (always a gamble in historic Italian hotels, let’s be honest). What really got me was the attention to small details – the way morning light filters through the windows, how they’ve restored the old wooden beams without making them look fake or overdone.
Here’s what I wish someone had told me before I went: parking is going to be a bit of an adventure since you’re in the ZTL (the restricted historic zone), but the hotel staff actually knows what they’re doing with directions to the nearest lot. Also, if you’re there during Palio season – well, good luck with that energy, but also book way in advance because everyone wants to be walking distance from the Campo. The breakfast situation is solid Italian continental stuff, nothing fancy but good quality, and honestly after a few days of exploring Siena’s hills, you’ll appreciate not having to hunt down coffee first thing in the morning. The staff has this lovely way of being helpful without being hovering, and they seem to genuinely know the city – I got better restaurant recommendations from them than from most guidebooks. At a 9.3 rating, I mean, you’re not exactly taking a huge risk here, but what makes it special isn’t just the high scores. It’s more about how the place manages to feel both historically significant and actually livable, like you’re experiencing authentic Siena rather than just visiting a hotel that happens to be in Siena.

What could be improved: Nothing
Staying in this apartment, you can experience the atmosphere of historic Siena. I would definitely recommend it!
The apartment is spotlessly clean, the rooms are spacious and the windows are well soundproofed against noise from the street.
