The building itself has that authentic medieval vibe that you can’t fake, with thick walls that keep things blissfully cool even when it’s blazing outside in July.

The staff here really gets it – they’re not just going through the motions like at some chain hotel. When I mentioned I was hoping to catch the sunrise from the ramparts, the guy at the front desk actually drew me a little map showing the best route through the old town streets (and warned me about the uneven stones near Piazza Grande). The rooms have this perfect balance of old-world character and modern comfort – I mean, you’ve got original beamed ceilings and terracotta floors, but the shower pressure is fantastic and the Wi-Fi actually works. What really won me over was the location within Montepulciano itself. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the main piazza, but far enough from the tourist crowds that you can actually sleep at night.
