Luxury B&B La Dimora Degli Angeli
Florence, ItalyYou know what struck me first about La Dimora Degli Angeli? The name isn’t just fancy marketing – this place actually feels like angels had a hand in designing it. I mean, you walk into this restored palazzo on Via Dè Brunelleschi and there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s pretty remarkable for being literally a three-minute walk from the train station chaos. The street itself is one of those narrow Florence gems that most tourists rush past on their way to the Duomo, but honestly, that’s exactly what makes this spot so perfect. You’re close enough to everything that matters – Santa Maria Novella church is right there, the main shopping streets are around the corner – but far enough from Via Tornabuoni that you’re not dealing with cruise ship crowds streaming past your window at 7 AM.
The rooms here are what I’d call “intimate luxury” – not massive, but every single detail has been thought through. The owners clearly know their stuff when it comes to what travelers actually need. The bathrooms have those rainfall showers that don’t leave you freezing while you soap up (you know the ones I mean), and the beds… well, let’s just say I’ve stayed in plenty of four-star places where the mattress felt like it came from a budget chain. Not here. What really got me though was the breakfast setup – they serve it in this gorgeous frescoed room that feels like eating in a private noble family’s dining room, which, come to think of it, is probably exactly what it used to be. The spread isn’t one of those massive hotel buffets, but everything’s clearly sourced locally and the coffee is strong enough to fuel a morning of museum hopping.
Actually, staying here taught me something about Florence that I hadn’t picked up in previous visits – this Santa Maria Novella neighborhood has this wonderful evening rhythm where locals come out for their aperitivo around 6 PM, and suddenly the streets feel alive in a completely different way than during the tourist-heavy daytime hours. From La Dimora’s entrance, you can slip into this flow so naturally. There’s a wine bar about two blocks away that serves the most incredible pecorino with local honey, and a little osteria tucked behind the church that I never would have found if I’d been staying over near the Arno. The only minor thing I’d mention – and this is pretty typical for historic Florence buildings – is that the elevator is definitely built for European sensibilities, meaning if you’re traveling with massive suitcases, you might want to pack lighter. But honestly, for the location and the genuine care you feel in every aspect of this place, it’s such a small consideration. This is the kind of spot that makes you feel like you’re experiencing Florence the way it’s meant to be experienced – not as a tourist checking boxes, but as someone who actually gets to live in this incredible city for a few days.

Guest Reviews
The host was kind and friendly.
What could be improved: Nothing
- The room was confortable and had great views
What could be improved: - The elevator was very old school and a bit scary to get in
- No noise isolation and a bit light, but nothing too extreme that would make or break
What could be improved: No tea/coffee/kettle in room
What could be improved: Step down into bathroom
What could be improved: The elevator was very temperamental depending on other users on other floors not closing the doors completely. You have to be patient in getting the elevator. But we were fortunate to have an elevator.
