You know what really struck me about Lorenzo de’ Medici Family Home? The moment you walk into that little piazza – Piazza di Madonna degli Aldobrandini – it feels like you’ve stumbled into someone’s private neighborhood secret. I mean, you’re literally staying in San Lorenzo, where the Medici family actually lived and breathed, but it doesn’t feel touristy at all. The hotel sits right there at number 7, and honestly, I walked past it twice before realizing this unassuming entrance was my home for the next four nights.

The thing is, this place gets something that a lot of Florence hotels miss – it’s not trying to be a museum. Sure, you can feel the history in the thick walls and the way the floors creak just slightly when you walk across them, but the rooms are properly comfortable. The bathrooms actually have decent water pressure (trust me, this matters after a day of climbing the Duomo), and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up with a backache. What really won me over was the staff – they’re not just polite, they actually know their stuff. The woman at reception told me about this tiny osteria on Via Rosina that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my best meals in the city.

Location-wise, you’re golden here. The Mercato Centrale is literally a five-minute walk – perfect for grabbing supplies or just wandering through in the morning when it’s not completely packed with tourists. San Lorenzo Basilica is right there too, which means you can duck in for a quiet moment before the crowds arrive around 10 AM. And here’s something the booking sites won’t tell you – you’re close enough to the main sights that you can walk everywhere, but far enough from the Ponte Vecchio chaos that you can actually sleep at night. The only real noise you’ll hear is the occasional Vespa puttering down the narrow streets, which honestly just adds to the charm. One small heads up though – if you’re arriving by car, parking is pretty much impossible right outside. There’s a garage about ten minutes away, but your best bet is honestly just taking the train into Santa Maria Novella and walking over with your luggage. The whole experience feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find in Florence these days, and with an 8.9 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who thinks so.

The location was brilliant! Literally next door to the Medici Chapel which has the secret rooms of Michelangelo in it (you’ll need to book months in advance to get in). It was lovely and clean and had anything we needed for our stay.

The apartment location is perfect - we literally had the entire central Florence on our doorstep with sights such as the Duomo, Academia and other sites within very short walking distance. The availability of high quality restaurants on our doorstep was excellent.

The location is literally next to the Medici Chapel and two blocks from the Duomo and the Mercato Centrale and a 5 min walk to the train station. It’s on a pretty quiet square with a great little cafe with excellent coffee by the front door.

It was right in the middle of Florence, big enough for our group of 5 adults, with 2 bathrooms and a kitchen.
Nice map of Tuscany dug into the plastery of a wall.
