Lola Piccolo Hotel e Appartamenti
You know what struck me first about Lola Piccolo? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re there – it’s got this intimate, almost boutique feel despite being right in the heart of Marina di Grosseto. The building sits on Via XXIV Maggio, which honestly sounds more impressive than it looks (it’s just a regular street), but the location is actually pretty smart. You’re close enough to hear the evening buzz from the town center, but far enough that you’re not dealing with late-night noise from the bars.
The whole setup feels like someone took a traditional Italian hotel and gave it a modern shake without losing the personality. I mean, the staff genuinely seem to care about what you’re up to – not in an intrusive way, but they’ll actually give you real recommendations for where to grab morning coffee or which beach spots the locals prefer over the tourist traps. The rooms have that clean, unfussy vibe that works whether you’re staying in their hotel rooms or one of the apartments. Speaking of which, the apartment option is clutch if you’re planning to stay more than a few days – having a little kitchen means you can hit up the morning market and not blow your budget on every meal.
What really won me over was the attention to those small things that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a bit. The Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes, the shower pressure is solid (honestly, this can make or break a trip), and there’s enough space to actually unpack without feeling like you’re playing Tetris with your luggage. Marina di Grosseto itself is sort of the perfect base camp – you’ve got the Maremma coastline right there, but you’re also close enough to explore some of the smaller hill towns if you rent a car. The whole area gets pretty busy in July and August, but shoulder season is when this place really shines. You get the warm weather and clear water without feeling like you’re swimming in a sea of umbrellas.
The 8.6 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be some luxury resort, but it delivers on what it promises. The four-star designation actually means something here, unlike some places where the stars seem purely decorative. If you’re looking for that sweet spot between authentic local experience and having your basic comfort needs met, Lola Piccolo hits that balance really well.

WE also liked:
- the sea view, a pleasure to wake up in the morning and look outside into the deepest blues of the Tirreno Sea
- the breakfast, many options (some looked handmade!) and the breakfast staff exceeded expectations in terms of quality and availability. The only suggestion would be a quicker/friendlier toaster device.
- we did some laundry there, the cost is ok and we were satisfied with the results
