LHP Hotel River & SPA
Florence, ItalyYou know what struck me first about LHP Hotel River & SPA? It’s actually right on the Arno – like, literally on Lungarno Della Zecca Vecchia – which means you’re getting those river views without staying in some touristy area that feels disconnected from real Florence. I mean, you’re in Santa Croce, so you’ve got that perfect sweet spot where locals actually live and work, but you can still walk to the Duomo in about fifteen minutes.
The building itself has this understated elegance that feels very Florentine – none of that over-the-top gold leaf stuff you see in some five-star places. When I walked into the lobby, there was this subtle scent of bergamot (I think?) and the marble floors had that worn-smooth patina that only comes with age. The staff actually remembered my name after the first day, which honestly doesn’t happen that often anymore. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving after 3 PM because they seem to get a bit backed up during the afternoon changeover.
Here’s the thing about the spa – and this is where they really shine – it’s not just some afterthought stuck in the basement. The treatments feel authentically Italian, if that makes sense, not like some generic hotel spa experience. I did the thermal circuit on a rainy Tuesday afternoon and barely saw another soul, which was perfect. The pool area has these huge windows facing the river, so you’re soaking in warm water while watching the occasional rowing crew glide by. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a proper five-star – well-appointed without being fussy, and the beds are legitimately comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses). If you get a river-facing room, you’ll hear some traffic noise during the day, but it’s the gentle hum of Vespas and compact cars, not honking taxis.
What I really appreciated was how they handle the location. You’re close enough to walk to Palazzo Pitti and the Oltrarno artisan workshops – actually, there’s this amazing leather craftsman about three blocks away that most tourists never find. But you’re also positioned so that when the day-tripper crowds descend on the city center around 10 AM, you feel pleasantly removed from all that chaos. The concierge (ask for Marco if he’s still there) has genuine local connections – he got me into this tiny trattoria near Santo Spirito that doesn’t even have a sign outside.
Breakfast is served until 10:30, which is civilized, and they do proper espresso, not that weak coffee-flavored water you sometimes get at international hotels. The restaurant overlooks the river, and if you time it right during sunset, the light reflecting off the water creates this golden glow that’s pretty spectacular. Is it perfect? Well, the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, and parking is limited (though they do have valet service). But honestly, for the combination of location, genuine service, and that spa – especially if you’re visiting during Florence’s sweltering summers – it’s the kind of place that makes you want to extend your stay by a day or two.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Check in was a little slow
What could be improved: Nothing bad to say here!
What could be improved: Limited choices at breakfast.
Excellent location. clean nice hotel .Very friendly staff highly recommend.
What could be improved: something to bear in mind is the actual distance the hotel is to the centre of Florence. It is a 15 euro ride in a taxi or a good 25/30 minute walk.
We had a hire car and the charge per day that the hotel charges for parking is 35 euros. The car is housed somewhere away from the hotel and a 1 hour notice period is required by the hotel for collection and drop off.
What could be improved: Evening dining was not as good as it should have been for such a highly rated hotel
