Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of Florence hotels, and most of them either stick you in some converted Renaissance palazzo where you’re afraid to touch anything, or dump you in a modern box that could be anywhere in Europe. Hotel Regency actually gets the balance right – it’s got that old-world Florence charm without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum.

The location is honestly perfect if you know Florence at all. You’re on Piazza M. d’Azeglio, which sounds fancy but is actually this lovely, quiet square that most tourists never find. It’s in the Santissima Annunziata area, so you’re close enough to walk to the Duomo (maybe 10 minutes through those narrow streets), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the chaos of crowds and street performers at all hours. The piazza itself has this beautiful garden in the center where locals actually sit and read – you know, real Florence life, not tourist Florence. I mean, you’ll still hear some traffic from Via della Colonna, but it’s nothing like staying near the Ponte Vecchio.

What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out. The concierge (an older gentleman who’s probably worked there for decades) didn’t just give me the standard restaurant recommendations – he sent me to this tiny trattoria on Via Gino Capponi that I never would have found otherwise. The rooms themselves feel substantial, if that makes sense. Heavy fabrics, proper marble in the bathrooms, and – this is important – actually functional air conditioning. You’d be surprised how many “luxury” hotels in Florence still struggle with that. The beds are firm in that European way, and honestly, after walking Florence’s cobblestones all day, that’s exactly what you want. There’s something about the morning light coming through those tall windows that just feels… well, it feels like Florence should feel.

The breakfast situation is solid too – they’ve got a proper spread in this bright dining room that overlooks the piazza. You can sit there with your cappuccino and watch the neighborhood wake up, which beats fighting for a table at some crowded café any day. And here’s a practical thing nobody mentions – parking is actually manageable here. There’s a garage nearby, and the hotel can arrange it, which is basically a miracle in this city. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and they stored our bags without any fuss when we arrived early. It’s those little things that matter when you’re jet-lagged and just want things to work. The whole place just feels… established, I guess. Like it knows what it’s doing and doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone.
