Hotel Country Club Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Hotel Country Club along Via Pesciatina, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the name — it sounds pretty generic, right? But this four-star property actually surprised me in the best way. The building has this understated elegance that feels authentically Italian rather than trying too hard, and you immediately notice how quiet it is despite being on a main road. What really caught my attention was the free private parking right on-site — trust me, if you’ve ever tried to park anywhere in Tuscany, you’ll appreciate this more than any fancy amenity.
Location & Surroundings
The hotel sits in Capannori, which is one of those perfectly positioned spots that locals know about but tourists often miss. You’re about 15 minutes from Lucca’s historic center, but far enough out that you get this peaceful, countryside vibe without the crowds. I mean, the location rating of 8.0 from recent guests tells the whole story — couples especially seem to love it here, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about being tucked away in the Tuscan hills while still having easy access to everything you want to explore.
The Room Experience
My room was larger than I expected, with that classic Italian attention to detail that you don’t always find in chain hotels. The furnishings felt thoughtful rather than cookie-cutter, and honestly, the bed was incredibly comfortable after long days of walking around medieval towns. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything was at night — you know how some hotels have paper-thin walls? Not an issue here. The bathroom was well-appointed too, though nothing overly fancy — just solid, quality fixtures that actually work properly.
Dining & Amenities
The hotel’s restaurant serves regional cuisine that actually tastes like it’s made by people who care about food, not just filling plates. I had this incredible wild boar ragu one evening that was clearly made with local ingredients — you can taste the difference when chefs source from nearby farms. The service throughout the property strikes that perfect Italian balance of being attentive without hovering. Staff members genuinely seem to enjoy helping guests figure out the best routes to nearby towns or recommending that little osteria down the road that only locals know about.
Why Guests Love It
What sets this place apart is how it feels like a real Italian experience rather than a tourist bubble. The 8.2 overall rating makes sense when you consider that everything just works smoothly without any pretense. You’re staying somewhere that Italians themselves would choose for a weekend getaway, which says a lot. The combination of peaceful surroundings, genuine hospitality, and that prime location for exploring both Lucca and the broader Tuscan countryside creates exactly what most travelers are actually looking for — an authentic base that doesn’t break the bank but doesn’t cut corners either.
Tuscany hotels keep guests close to Chianti cellars, thermal springs, and frescoed chapels.
