Hotel Antica Tabaccaia Resort
Terranuova Bracciolini, ItalyYou know what? I almost drove right past Hotel Antica Tabaccaia Resort on my first visit – it sits quietly along Strada Val di Ascione, about 10 minutes outside Terranuova Bracciolini’s center, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. The building itself tells you everything about this place: it’s a converted tobacco factory (hence the name), and they’ve done something really thoughtful with the industrial bones of the structure. The brick walls and high ceilings remind you of the building’s working past, but there’s this warm, almost cozy feeling that definitely doesn’t scream “factory.” I mean, you’re in proper Tuscan countryside here – rolling hills, cypress trees doing their dramatic thing against the sky, and that particular quality of light that makes you understand why painters have been obsessed with this region for centuries.
The rooms are actually quite generous, which surprised me given how many European hotels seem designed for people who travel with a single change of clothes. Mine had these lovely terracotta floors that stayed cool even during the August heat, and the bathroom was modern without being sterile. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – you’re far enough from the autostrada that you won’t hear trucks, but close enough to Arezzo (maybe 20 minutes) that you’re not completely cut off from civilization. The staff genuinely seems to care about getting things right, though I’d brush up on your Italian or practice your gestures because English isn’t everyone’s strong suit. The pool area is where this place really shines – it’s got that perfect “hidden gem” vibe where you can actually relax without feeling like you’re performing vacation for Instagram. During my stay in late September, I practically had it to myself most afternoons.
Here’s the thing about staying here: you need to embrace the fact that this isn’t a grab-your-keycard-and-disappear kind of place. The location means you’ll probably rent a car (parking is easy and free, thank goodness), and you’ll want to explore the smaller towns around here that most tourists skip entirely. Montevarchi is a short drive and has this fantastic weekly market, and if you’re into wine – well, you’re basically surrounded by some of Tuscany’s most underrated vineyards. The hotel’s restaurant is solid, not spectacular, but they do a really nice job with local ingredients, and the breakfast spread actually includes some interesting regional cheeses alongside the usual suspects. I’d say this place earns its 8.1 rating honestly – it’s not trying to be the fanciest spot in Tuscany, but it delivers on comfort, location, and that increasingly rare commodity: genuine hospitality without the corporate polish.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: I think some of the facilities needs maintenance, a little more of cleaning in the rooms and within the building, replacing non working light bulbs and a little of renovations for the hotel to be more attractive to future clients. The rest is very good.
What could be improved: The shower needs some repair. The floor towel was not washed from the previous guests (it was covered with hair).
What could be improved: Nothing.
What could be improved: All was fine.
What could be improved: The breakfast was good but missing more bread selection and vegetables. The extra bed was not so comfortable and hard pillows but otherwise fine.
big bed
big shower
nice pool
What could be improved: electric windows
loud and unprofessional staff
minimal attention to costumer care
poor breakfast
