Grand Hotel Vittoria
Montecatini Terme, ItalySo I’ve stayed at the Grand Hotel Vittoria a few times now, and honestly, it’s one of those places that just gets Montecatini Terme right. You know how some hotels feel like they could be anywhere? This isn’t one of them. The moment you walk up Viale della Libertà – which, by the way, is basically the main drag where all the action happens – you can tell this place has been welcoming guests who come for the thermal waters for decades. There’s this old-world elegance that hasn’t been scrubbed away by renovations, if that makes sense. The lobby still has those classic marble floors that echo just enough to remind you you’re somewhere special, and the staff actually remembers your name after the first day (which is rarer than you’d think).
What really sold me on this place is how it sits right in the heart of everything without feeling touristy or chaotic. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Terme Tettuccio – the main thermal spa complex that everyone comes to Montecatini for – but somehow the hotel maintains this peaceful bubble. The rooms on the upper floors have these lovely views over the town and toward the hills, and if you’re lucky enough to get one facing the park side, you’ll hear birds instead of scooters in the morning. The breakfast room opens onto a little terrace where you can actually sit outside with your cappuccino and watch the town wake up, which is something I look forward to every time I’m there. And speaking of breakfast – they do this thing with local pastries that you won’t find at the chain hotels, plus the coffee is properly Italian strong (not that watered-down stuff some places serve tourists).
The whole thermal spa culture in Montecatini can feel a bit overwhelming if you’re not used to it, but staying at the Vittoria gives you this perfect home base to ease into it. The concierge – this lovely woman named Francesca who’s been there forever – knows exactly which thermal treatments are worth your time and which ones you can skip. She also pointed me toward this little osteria on Via Verdi that I never would have found otherwise, where locals actually eat dinner instead of just the tourist spots around Piazza del Popolo. The hotel itself isn’t trying to be a destination spa or anything fancy like that, which I actually appreciate. It’s comfortable, the beds are proper firm (not those soft mattresses that kill your back), and the air conditioning works well during those surprisingly hot Tuscan summers. Sure, it’s not the newest place in town, but that’s part of its charm – it feels authentic in a way that newer hotels sometimes don’t. For the price point and location, especially if you’re coming for the thermal waters or using Montecatini as a base to explore the region, it’s honestly hard to beat.

Guest Reviews
The breakfast was another highlight. It was hot, fresh, and a great way to start the day.
What could be improved: The only downside was the outdated carpets leading to the stairs, which could use a refresh to match the rest of the property’s charm.
The dinner on the balcony was so romantic and the food was superior with great attention to service. Impressed by the value we got.
What could be improved: Finding the hotel when a sign like other hotels would have helped. Great location when you know....walking distance.
What could be improved: Pool was modest compared to "terme" presentation
What could be improved: No full length mirror in the bedroom.
What could be improved: Some water in the bedroom would be nice.
What could be improved: The lighting in the rooms was quite harsh and the side lights were not working. We couldn't get the TV to work but didn't report it since it was all Italian. I am sure it would have been resolved had we asked. It would have been nice to have more natural light.
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Breakfast,we arrived 7.30 am everything was missing we needed to asked stuff to clean a table to set.
