Grand Hotel Tamerici & Principe
Montecatini Terme, ItalySo I ended up at the Grand Hotel Tamerici & Principe during my spring trip to Montecatini Terme, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. The location on Viale 4 Novembre puts you right in the thick of things – you’re literally a two-minute walk from the main thermal park, which is pretty much why everyone comes to this town anyway.
The building itself has that classic Italian hotel grandeur thing going on, you know what I mean? Think high ceilings, marble floors that echo when you walk across them in the morning, and this sort of faded elegance that actually works in its favor. My room faced the street, which meant I got to watch the daily parade of thermal spa visitors shuffling by in their robes – honestly more entertaining than it sounds. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions, and they actually knew the bus schedules to Florence without having to look it up.
What I really appreciated was how the hotel feels authentically Italian rather than trying to be some generic luxury experience. The breakfast spread was solid – proper espresso, fresh cornetti, and they had this local honey that I’m still thinking about months later. The rooms are comfortable enough, though the bathrooms could use a refresh (the tile work screams 1980s, but everything functions perfectly fine). Parking was surprisingly easy to sort out, which if you’ve driven in any Italian town, you’ll know is basically a small miracle.
The thermal baths are literally across the street, so you can stumble back to your room between treatments without any real effort. I mean, that’s the whole point of staying here rather than commuting from Florence, right? The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after dinner – this isn’t exactly a nightlife destination – but there’s something really pleasant about evening walks through the tree-lined streets. Plus, if you’re into that whole “taking the waters” experience, the hotel concierge can set you up with treatments at different spas around town, and they actually know which ones are worth your time versus the tourist traps.
Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with cutting-edge amenities or anything, but for a solid 4-star experience in a thermal town that hasn’t been completely overrun by crowds, the Grand Hotel Tamerici & Principe delivers exactly what it promises. The 7.8 rating feels about right – good service, comfortable rooms, unbeatable location for the spa circuit, and that relaxed Italian hospitality that makes you want to linger over breakfast just a little longer than you planned.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Not many loungers by the pool if the hotel is busy. Could add more choices for breakfast.
What could be improved: The hotel needs some decorative attention. Breakfast is plentiful , but moderate quality. Tea/coffee making facility in the rooms would be helpful.
What could be improved: Ma think that ‘80 are finished! make a new hotel !
What could be improved: Unfortunately there has been no renovation of the rooms for years. Such a shame, because the style of the hotel is great.
Great location too.
I had also stayed here 5yrs ago and the standards are still kept high.
What could be improved: Breakfast is okay according to the price, but I would have loved some more fresh products instead of the pre-packed standard ones, plus a real caffetteria instead of the automatic machines.
What could be improved: N/A
What could be improved: it’s big and therefore feels unpersonal
What could be improved: The aircondition was not good/powerful enough, so we had 26 degrees at the lowest and there were ni aircondition in the lobby or in the hall ways.
