Gallery Hotel Art – Lungarno Collection
You know what struck me first about the Gallery Hotel Art? It’s tucked away on this tiny street called Vicolo Dell’Oro that you’d probably walk right past if you weren’t looking for it. I mean, that’s actually perfect – you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Ponte Vecchio chaos, but sitting in this quiet little pocket that feels completely separate from the tourist madness. The building itself is this gorgeous converted medieval structure, and honestly, walking into the lobby feels like stepping into someone’s really well-curated art collection rather than a typical hotel.
The whole place has this contemporary art vibe going on (hence the name, obviously), but it’s not pretentious about it. The rooms are sleek and modern – think clean lines, marble bathrooms, and these floor-to-ceiling windows that actually open, which is something I always appreciate in European hotels. Some of the rooms look out over the narrow street, others toward the internal courtyard, and if you’re lucky enough to snag one of the upper floors, you’ll catch glimpses of the Duomo. The beds are seriously comfortable, and the air conditioning actually works well, which… let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in Florence during summer. There’s this cool fusion restaurant on the ground floor that serves decent food, though I’d probably venture out to eat most nights since you’re in the heart of everything.
What really makes this place special is the location – you’re basically equidistant from Santa Maria Novella station (super handy if you’re doing day trips) and all the major sights. Via de’ Tornabuoni is right there for shopping, and you can walk to the Uffizi in about five minutes. The staff genuinely knows the city well and can point you toward the good gelato spots that aren’t tourist traps. Parking is… well, it’s Florence, so forget about driving, but the hotel can arrange transfers if you need them. The 8.6 rating feels about right – it’s polished and comfortable without being flashy, and the art theme gives it personality without feeling gimmicky. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if you want to be in the centro storico but prefer a quieter base than some of the bigger hotels on the main drags.
