Foresteria Il Giardino di Fontarronco
Alberoro, ItalyFirst Impressions
You know what struck me most about Foresteria Il Giardino di Fontarronco? It’s not actually what you’d expect from the name — this isn’t some grand estate, but rather an intimate retreat tucked away in the Tuscan countryside near Alberoro. The moment you pull up the gravel drive (and yes, there’s plenty of free parking right on site), you realize you’ve found something genuinely special. It sits in this peaceful spot where the rolling hills seem to stretch endlessly, and honestly, the 9.4 rating from recent guests makes perfect sense once you’re here.
The Setting
Located in the Chiana valley, this place gives you that authentic Tuscan experience without feeling touristy or overdone. I mean, Alberoro itself is barely a dot on the map, which is exactly the point — you’re surrounded by working vineyards and olive groves, not tour buses. The location gets a 9.9 rating from couples, and I can see why. There’s something romantic about being this removed from everything while still being within reach of places like Arezzo or Cortona when you want to explore. The silence here at night is actually remarkable — just cicadas and the occasional owl.
What Makes It Work
The hosts at Foresteria Il Giardino di Fontarronco really get it right when it comes to hospitality. They respond incredibly quickly to any questions (which matters more than you’d think when you’re in rural Italy), and they seem to genuinely care about making your stay memorable. The property itself has this lived-in charm — it’s not polished to perfection, but that’s part of its appeal. You’ll find yourself spending hours in the garden areas, which are beautifully maintained without feeling overly manicured. There’s WiFi that actually works, which isn’t always a given in these countryside spots.
The Experience
What I loved most was how this place lets you settle into the rhythm of rural Tuscany. Mornings here start slowly — you’ll want to grab a coffee and just sit outside listening to the countryside wake up. The rooms are comfortable and clean, with that sort of understated elegance that feels more like staying at a well-appointed friend’s house than a hotel. The bathrooms are modern enough, and honestly, after a day of exploring the nearby hill towns, you’ll appreciate having a quiet, comfortable base to return to. The whole property has this sense of being carefully tended without being fussy about it.
Why Guests Love It
It’s the combination of genuine tranquility and thoughtful touches that keeps people coming back to this place. You’re getting an authentic slice of Tuscan life — complete with that incredible light that photographers rave about — but with modern comforts and hosts who actually care about your experience. The free parking might seem like a small thing, but when you’re navigating narrow Italian roads with a rental car, it’s a relief to know you have a secure spot waiting. Plus, there’s something deeply satisfying about falling asleep to complete silence and waking up to nothing but birdsong and distant church bells.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: We had around 35 degrees all week and it was quite hot inside from time to time. No aircon, but fans were provided that helped. Eastern Tuscany is great but good to know that you are a bit further from some of the most known areas.
The estate is surrounded by orchards, not what you expect in Tuscany, but very beautiful. We received fresh food and homemade juice as a welcome.
What could be improved: I could not think of anything. We were absolutely happy over there. Loved it.
What could be improved: - The kitchen equipment is really really basic. There are two small electric burners, but all the pans are too large so you cannot really fit two pans simultaneously.
- The apartment could be cleaned a bit better. It is not unhygienic, but it was not really clean on the ceilings and under the furniture
Our Host Gabriel is an amazing, sweet, kind and passionate person. He made our stay 1000 times better. He could tell us everything about Tuscany, the food, the wine, the little cities. he has so much passion for everything and nothing is too much.
Later on, I heard it wasn’t even his house but from friends. He just works there, if I was the owner, i would be so gratefull to have him.
If we ever get married, we would definitely rent the whole place. Can’t wait to refer friends and come back next year.
PS: The restaurant was amazing and cozy as well.
Thank you so much for an unbelievable stay ❤️✨
