DRAGO d’ ORO SUITES
First Impressions
Walking up to DRAGO d’ ORO SUITES on Via del Drago D’Oro feels like discovering a hidden gem that most tourists completely miss. This four-star property sits right in San Frediano — honestly one of my favorite neighborhoods in Florence because it still feels authentically Florentine rather than like a tourist theme park. The building itself has that understated elegance you find in the best Italian accommodations, where they don’t need to shout about quality because the craftsmanship speaks for itself.
The San Frediano Advantage
You know what I love about this location? You’re literally in the heart of Florence but on a quieter street where you can actually hear yourself think. San Frediano is where locals still live and work — there’s a fantastic little trattoria just around the corner that I stumbled upon during my stay, and the morning walk to Ponte Vecchio takes maybe eight minutes through some of the most charming streets in the city. The couples who stay here consistently rave about the location, and I get it — there’s something romantic about being tucked away in this authentic neighborhood while still being steps from all the major sights.
The Suite Experience
The room I stayed in was spacious in a way that’s genuinely rare for Florence — I mean, we’re talking about a medieval city where space is at a premium. What struck me most was the attention to detail in the design; they’ve managed to blend contemporary comfort with subtle nods to Florentine style without going overboard with the Renaissance theme (you know how some places can get a bit heavy-handed with that). The bathroom was particularly well-appointed, and honestly, after days of walking on cobblestones, that rainfall shower felt like pure heaven.
Neighborhood Life
One morning I grabbed coffee at the little bar down the street and watched the neighborhood come alive — shopkeepers opening their doors, locals heading to work, that authentic Italian morning rhythm that you just can’t experience when you’re staying in the touristy center. The Oltrarno district, which San Frediano is part of, has this wonderful mix of artisan workshops, local eateries, and real Florentine life. You’re close enough to cross the river and hit the Uffizi or Duomo whenever you want, but you get to retreat to this more peaceful, residential vibe at the end of the day.
Why Guests Love It
The combination of location and quality really sets this place apart — that 9.4 location score isn’t just marketing fluff, it’s earned. You’re getting the best of both worlds: easy access to Florence’s incredible art and architecture, plus the chance to experience the city like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through. The staff clearly takes pride in the property, and it shows in everything from the immaculate common areas to the thoughtful touches in each suite. For couples especially, there’s something special about having your own elegant space in this romantic neighborhood while being perfectly positioned to explore everything Florence has to offer.

There was an elevator, lots of space, air conditioning, cute kitchen, and a wonderful Michelin star restaurant under it.
It was also located where the locals live, but super easy to get to the main attractions of Florence.
