I loved that I could hear the church bells from Santa Margherita up the mountain, especially in the early morning when the town’s still quiet. The owner clearly gets that people come to Cortona to slow down and soak in the atmosphere. There’s this little courtyard area where you can sit with a glass of wine in the evening, and the whole setup just encourages you to linger. The breakfast situation is simple but thoughtful – fresh pastries, good coffee, and they’ll point you toward the best spots for dinner (seriously, ask them about the family-run places that don’t advertise to tourists). Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of town – I mean, we’re talking about medieval streets here – but they’ll give you the insider knowledge on where to leave your car without getting a ticket. The 9.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s one of those places where everything just works without feeling overly polished or pretentious.
