Corte Calzaiuoli Elegant Suites
So I’ve walked past this place probably a hundred times heading to the Uffizi, and honestly, I always wondered what it was like inside those elegant stone facades on Via dei Calzaiuoli. Well, I finally got to stay at Corte Calzaiuoli Elegant Suites last spring, and – okay, this might sound dramatic – but it’s exactly what you picture when you dream about staying in the heart of Renaissance Florence. The entrance is subtle, almost secretive in that Italian way, but once you’re inside, the restoration work is absolutely stunning. They’ve kept all the original architectural details – we’re talking frescoed ceilings and stone archways – while somehow making everything feel completely modern and comfortable. The suites themselves are spacious (which, if you’ve stayed in historic Italian hotels before, you know is not a given), and the bathrooms actually have decent water pressure. I mean, the marble work alone probably costs more than most people’s rent.
But here’s what really gets me about this place – the location is just ridiculous. You’re literally steps from the Duomo, and I could roll out of bed and be first in line at the Uffizi. During the day, Via dei Calzaiuoli can get pretty busy with tourists heading between the cathedral and the river, but honestly, once you’re inside the hotel, it’s surprisingly quiet. The windows are well-insulated, and by evening when the day-trippers head back to their tour buses, the street takes on this completely different character. There’s something magical about having your morning espresso and watching the city wake up from your window while street cleaners are still working and shopkeepers are just opening their shutters. The staff – and this matters more than you might think – actually seem to enjoy their jobs. They gave me restaurant recommendations that weren’t tourist traps (try Il Palagio if you can get in), and when I mentioned I was interested in leather shopping, they pointed me toward some workshops in Oltrarno instead of the obvious places around San Lorenzo market.
Look, Florence has plenty of hotels, and you could definitely find cheaper options, but if you want to feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it, this place hits differently. The 9.5 rating makes sense when you experience it – everything just works smoothly, from the keycard system to the housekeeping schedule. I stayed during shoulder season in April, which I’d actually recommend because you get the full experience without the summer crowds pressing against your windows. The only real downside? Well, there’s no parking directly at the hotel since it’s in the restricted zone, but honestly, you don’t need a car in this location anyway. Just take the bus from the airport or train station – it’s easier than dealing with Florence’s traffic regulations. Would I stay here again? Absolutely. It’s the kind of place that makes you understand why people fall in love with Florence in the first place.

Breakfast was amazing, Staff were exceptional, location is perfect, the bed was super comfortable and bigger than a regular king. The bathtub was so nice and the Netflix actually worked!
