You know what? I’ve walked past this place on Via della Scala probably a hundred times before finally staying here, and honestly, I was kicking myself for not booking it sooner. Coco Places sits right in that sweet spot where you’re technically in the Santa Maria Novella neighborhood but you’re actually just a few minutes from all the action without dealing with the tourist chaos that hits the main squares every morning around 9 AM.

The building itself has this lovely Florentine character – you know, those thick stone walls that keep things surprisingly cool even in July, and the apartments actually feel like someone’s well-designed home rather than a sterile hotel room. I mean, there’s a proper kitchen where you can make coffee the way you like it (not those terrible pod machines), and the living areas have enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. The whole setup is perfect if you’re planning to stay more than just a couple nights, which – let’s be honest – you should do in Florence anyway. What really sold me was stepping out the front door and realizing I could walk to the Duomo in about eight minutes, hit the Oltrarno for dinner without needing a taxi, and still come home to a quiet street where you can actually sleep with the windows open. Via della Scala has this nice residential feel once you get away from the train station end, and you’ll find yourself wandering past the same little alimentari and cafes that locals use. There’s this tiny place called Bar Centrale just around the corner that does the best cornetto in the morning – not touristy at all, just excellent coffee and pastries where the barista will start making your usual order after the third day.

The whole experience just works smoothly too, which matters when you’re dragging luggage through those narrow medieval streets. Check-in was straightforward, the Wi-Fi actually functions properly (you’d be surprised how many places still struggle with this), and honestly, the 9-star rating makes sense when you consider you’re getting apartment-style comfort in the heart of Florence without paying those insane hotel prices near the Ponte Vecchio. Sure, you might hear some street noise in the early morning when the delivery trucks start making their rounds, but that’s just Florence being Florence – part of the charm, really. Plus, having that extra space means you can pick up ingredients at the Mercato Centrale and have a proper meal at home when you need a break from restaurant hunting.
