Casatorre dei Leoni Dimora Storica Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Casatorre dei Leoni Dimora Storica on Via del Porrione, you immediately know you’ve found something special. This four-star historic residence sits right in the heart of Siena, and I mean literally — you’re steps away from the Piazza del Campo. The building itself tells a story, with those classic Sienese stone walls that have probably seen centuries of travelers pass through. Honestly, the location alone makes this place worth considering, especially if you want to feel like you’re living in medieval Tuscany rather than just visiting it.

The Heart of Siena

You know what’s great about staying here? You can roll out of bed and be at the Duomo in about five minutes on foot. The narrow cobblestone streets around Via del Porrione are exactly what you picture when you think of Tuscany — no tourist buses rumbling past, just the authentic rhythm of local life. I’ve noticed couples seem to absolutely love this spot (they rate the location 9.9, which honestly makes perfect sense), and after spending time here, I get why. There’s something romantic about being tucked away in these medieval streets, yet still being able to pop out to the main square whenever you want.

Your Room and Comfort

The room I stayed in perfectly balanced historic charm with modern comfort — you’ll find original architectural details alongside updated amenities that actually work. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not always a given in historic properties), and the bathrooms have been thoughtfully renovated without losing that old-world character. What I appreciated most was the attention to detail in preserving the building’s heritage while making sure you’re not roughing it. The windows open onto those quintessential Sienese views, and the thick walls keep things surprisingly quiet despite being in the city center.

Breakfast and Practical Matters

The breakfast spread here is actually quite impressive — they offer continental, vegan, and gluten-free options in a buffet style, which covers pretty much everyone’s needs. I mean, finding good vegan options in a historic Tuscan property isn’t always easy, so that was a pleasant surprise. They’ve also got private parking available, which is honestly a lifesaver if you’re driving in Siena. Trust me, navigating these medieval streets with a rental car can be… well, let’s just say having a guaranteed spot takes a lot of stress out of the equation.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both grand and intimate at the same time. You’re staying in a piece of Siena’s history, but it doesn’t feel like a museum — it feels like home, just a really beautiful, centuries-old home. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay memorable, and their local recommendations have never steered me wrong. With a 9.2 rating, it’s clear other guests feel the same way. If you want to experience Siena the way it was meant to be experienced — slowly, authentically, and right in the thick of things — this historic residence delivers exactly that.

Very welcoming staff and manager! The hotel has a history of more than a thousand years! The hotel's rooms are super large, and it retains a simple and classic Renaissance style! We are extremely impressed! It can be described as amazing! The staff of the parking partner of the hotel are also very enthusiastic and willing to talk. We had a great time chatting with them all the way!

This property is a piece of history! The room was stunning, spacious and clean. The staff were kind and sweet. Siena is a gem and Castorre dei Leoni is definitely where you should stay if visiting, a 5 min walking distance from the centre. We loved everything about our stay here and will definitely be back again! Thank you Flavia for the best communication and waiting for us on our late check in.

We have a new dream to stay in this apartment for a month while studying Italian 🙂 We only had a quick one night visit here but it was hard for us to go as it was so comfortable. A really amazing space in a building from the 1100s (!!) that has a perfect remodel of blending old and new. It was quiet at night and in the perfect area with lots to walk to. We had the breakfast and it was a continental with a great selection. We talked to two workers at the front desk and they were both lovely. Thank you for an excellent stay!

The location of Casatorre dei Leoni is excellent: just a couple of minutes from the Piazza del Campo in the heart of Siena. The apartment we stayed in, on the first floor, is stylish and spacious. The living area, which consists of a well-equipped kitchen and dining area as well as a fun seating area, has wonderful, high ceilings and windows to one end. The bedrooms are at the other end of the apartment with a divan bed up on the split level balcony. The staff were helpful and friendly, arranging for us to drive our car into the city with our bags (an hour's pass – cars not allowed in the centre) and helped us upstairs with them. Our group of six thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it.

    Everything.

  • Vivienne from United Kingdom (9/10)

Beautiful historic building, sympathetically renovated and wonderfully situated in the centre, very close to the Campo.
