Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Casa IVH? It’s tucked away on Via Alfonso la Marmora in this perfect sweet spot where you’re actually living like a local but still close enough to stumble back from the Duomo without calling a cab. I mean, you’re in the San Marco area – which honestly feels more authentic than staying right in the tourist crush – but it’s maybe a 12-minute walk to all the big sights. The street itself is pretty quiet, which I appreciated after spending days dodging tour groups and Vespas in the city center.

The place has this really genuine bed-and-breakfast vibe that you don’t find much anymore. It’s not trying to be some sleek boutique hotel, and that’s actually refreshing. The hosts clearly know their stuff – they’ll point you toward that little osteria around the corner on Via Cavour that doesn’t even have a sign, or tell you the best time to hit Mercato Centrale before it gets crazy (early morning, by the way). The rooms have character without being fussy about it, and honestly, after a long day of walking on cobblestones, you just want somewhere comfortable that feels like home. The building itself has that solid, old-Florence feel – thick walls that keep things cool in summer and actually quiet at night, which is harder to find than you’d think in the city center.

What really sells me on this place is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’ve got the Sant’Ambrogio market just a short walk away – that’s where locals actually shop, not the touristy San Lorenzo stalls – and you’re close enough to Piazza Santa Croce that you can pop over for an evening aperitivo without it being a whole production. The Santissima Annunziata area has this lived-in quality where you’ll see the same shopkeepers every morning and actually feel like you’re experiencing Florence, not just checking it off a list. Plus, and this matters more than people think, you can actually find decent parking nearby if you’re driving, and the hosts know all the tricks about where to leave your car without getting a ticket. It’s these little details that make the difference between a good trip and one of those experiences you’re still talking about months later.
