Casa Fioranna
You know what’s funny about Casa Fioranna? I drove past it twice before realizing this unassuming stone building in Seggiano was actually my hotel. It sits in this quiet spot called Loc. Bellaria – honestly, you need GPS because it’s not exactly on the main drag, but that’s sort of the point. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that washes over you. The lobby smells faintly of lavender and old wood, and I mean that in the best way possible. The check-in was refreshingly personal – the woman at the desk actually remembered my name the next morning and asked about my plans for Monte Amiata.
What really gets me about this place is how it manages to feel both polished and authentically Tuscan without trying too hard. The rooms have these thick stone walls that keep everything blissfully quiet (seriously, I didn’t hear a single car all night), and the beds are actually comfortable – you know how hit-or-miss that can be in boutique places. The bathrooms have this gorgeous local travertine, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. From my window, I could see straight across the valley toward Montalcino, which honestly made my morning coffee situation pretty spectacular. The whole property has this lived-in elegance – like staying at a well-traveled friend’s family home rather than a stuffy hotel.
Here’s the thing about the location that I didn’t fully appreciate until I’d been there a day: Seggiano is perfectly positioned for exploring southern Tuscany without dealing with tourist crowds. You’re maybe twenty minutes from the thermal baths at Bagno Vignoni, and the drive through the Val d’Orcia is just stunning. Plus, the town itself has this excellent little restaurant called Il Silene that the hotel folks recommended – definitely take their advice on dinner spots because they know the area inside and out. The parking situation is easy (there’s a small lot right behind the building), and the whole vibe is just refreshingly low-key. With a 9.4 rating, I expected good things, but Casa Fioranna exceeded that in ways that actually matter – like staff who give genuine recommendations instead of tourist traps, and amenities that enhance the experience rather than just existing to check boxes. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself extending your stay if you can swing it.
