BorgoDeGreci Apartments
Florence, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Florence accommodations, and BorgoDeGreci Apartments honestly surprised me in the best way. When you first walk up to Via Borgo De Greci 13, you’re literally steps away from the Uffizi – I mean, you can practically hear the tour groups gathering in the morning, which sounds annoying but actually becomes this pleasant hum of anticipation. The building itself has that weathered Florentine charm where every stone feels like it’s witnessed centuries of drama, and the entrance manages to feel both grand and welcoming without trying too hard.
What really got me was how they’ve nailed that tricky balance between apartment-style independence and hotel-level service. The spaces feel genuinely lived-in rather than sterile – you know what I mean? Like someone’s elegant Florentine aunt decided to let you crash at her place. The kitchenettes are actually functional (shocking, I know), and there’s something deeply satisfying about making morning coffee while watching early joggers head toward the Arno. The Wi-Fi works properly, which… honestly, after three days of patchy connections elsewhere in the city, felt like a minor miracle. I did notice some street noise in the evenings – well, it’s central Florence, so that’s kind of expected – but it dies down surprisingly early, and the windows are thick enough that it’s more atmospheric than disruptive.
The real insider knowledge here is the location’s accessibility to places tourists miss. Sure, everyone talks about being near the Uffizi, but you’re also a two-minute walk from Via del Ninna, where locals grab their morning cornetto, and you can slip down to the Oltrarno without fighting the crowds on Ponte Vecchio. The staff – and I use that term loosely because it feels more like helpful neighbors – actually know the neighborhood. They pointed me toward this tiny enoteca on Via dei Leoni that I never would’ve found otherwise, and their restaurant recommendations skipped the obvious tourist traps for places where you’ll hear more Italian than English. Check-in was refreshingly human; no corporate script, just genuine helpfulness about everything from laundry services to the best gelato within three blocks (it’s not the famous place everyone lines up for, by the way). The 8.8 rating makes complete sense when you experience how they’ve managed to create something that feels both effortlessly Florentine and genuinely comfortable – which, if you’ve spent any time in historic Italian city centers, you’ll know is much harder to pull off than it looks.

The apartment exceeded my expectations:
Location was excellent, a stone throw away from the Santa Croce and about a 15 min walk to the strain station. All the main sites are within walking distance. We booked a 1 bedroom apartment for 3 of us. The living room was big enough to open up the sofa bed and still have ample room around the dining and kitchen area. What impressed me the most was the attention to detail in the apartment. The little contemporary touches not only gave the apartment a modern feel but were also very convenient when you living away from home, with lots of storage space. Our apartment had excellent AC which was a plus in the heat.
Gelato, no exaggeration but they were the best I've tasted, (and yes better than Venchi and cheaper!).
Nuvola (near the Doumo) the Dubai Chocolate is to die for and you get service with a smile!
Cantina del gelato near the Ponte Vecchio - My favourite was the Caramel with Rock Salt.
