You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to BnB Paolina on Via delle Cerchia – I mean, it’s tucked away on this narrow street that you’d probably miss if you weren’t looking for it. But honestly, that’s exactly what makes this place special. It’s like finding a secret that the locals have been keeping to themselves, just a few minutes’ walk from the main drag but worlds away from the tourist chaos around the Duomo.

The whole place has this authentic Sienese feel that’s getting harder and harder to find these days. Paolina (yeah, the owner’s actually named Paolina) has managed to keep everything feeling genuinely local without sacrificing comfort – and trust me, after walking those medieval cobblestones all day, you’ll appreciate the thoughtful touches she’s added. The rooms are what I’d call “perfectly Tuscan” – exposed beams, terracotta floors, but with modern bathrooms that actually have decent water pressure. The breakfast situation is particularly good – she sources everything locally, and I swear the pecorino cheese came from somewhere just outside the city walls. You’ll want to get down early though, because the little courtyard where they serve it fills up fast, especially during spring when everyone’s trying to catch that perfect morning light.

What really sets this place apart is how Paolina seems to know every corner of Siena worth knowing about. She’ll casually mention that the best gelato is actually down this tiny alley near San Domenico (not the touristy spots on Via di Città), or that if you want to avoid the crowds at the Palazzo Pubblico, go right when they open at 10am. The location itself is pretty brilliant – you’re close enough to walk to everything that matters, but far enough from the main pedestrian areas that you won’t hear groups of tourists chatting outside your window at midnight. Parking can be a bit tricky (it’s Siena, after all), but there’s a decent lot about five minutes away, and honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need your car anyway. The whole centro storico becomes your backyard, and with a 9.3 rating, you can tell other travelers have figured out what makes this place work. It’s not fancy in that over-the-top hotel way, but it’s exactly what you want when you’re trying to actually experience Siena rather than just check it off a list.

Exceptional The location was excellent, near the heart of the city, but on the outer wall with a stunning view of the surrounding countryside. Our room was large and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend!

What could be improved: It was tricky getting to the train station when we left - taxis not always available.

A trip back in time in Siena This location takes you back in time as the rooms are huge with stunning balcony views, high ceilings and even some painted frescoes. Truly a unique experience. Like a small villa in the heart of Siena. A common breakfast area is available 24/7 to allow to you store wine or food for your room. Breakfast is continental style and delicious. The best part is sharing this space with other guests in the morning with the view of the Tuscan hills out the double door. All of Siena is walkable from here. We arrived by train and needed to hire a taxi to get to this location in the historic center. We left Siena by bus at the bus stop in the historic center about 9 min walk away. No need to go back to the train station. Siena is amazing and this location really adds to the experience. Great communication via WhatApp or Booking.com messaging.

What could be improved: Just to note: one to two flights up to the rooms should you have an issue.
